CRH is a leading diversified Building Materials Group with annual sales of over EUR20 billion and currently close to 80,000 employees worldwide. Vertically integrated, CRH services a broad range of construction demands. The fundamentals of CRH are building materials (aggregates, cement, asphalt, ready mixed concrete), but CRH is also a leading supplier of pre-cast, architectural concrete products and construction accessories used in the construction frame, as well as clay products, glass, insulation and building envelope products.
In addition, CRH is a leading distributor and retailer, selling building material products to both the professional contractor and the consumer through a network of close to 1,000 branches in Europe and the US. CRH prides itself of a well balanced portfolio in terms of geographical reach, product lines and end-user categories, which has allowed it to weather the housing crisis of the last two years much better than many of its competitors.
CRH has actively investigated the Chinese market since 2004 and made the first direct acquisition via Harbin Sanling Cement Company in 2007. This was followed by the acquisition of a 26% stake in the building materials operations of Yatai Group in January 2009 – (Yatai Group are listed on the 2011 China Enterprises Top 500). Other building products operations include Halfen Construction Accessories, and Sureblock. An investment by Halfen in a production unit in Inner Mongolia is currently being commissioned. In 2007 the CRH China Representative office was established and a wholly foreign owned subsidiary CRH Management (Beijing) was established in 2010.
