KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be in Beijing, reporting dually to the MD of the business unit and President of Reed Exhibitions Greater China. He/She will direct the rest of the management team composed of heads of
different functional departments.
The key objective for the incumbent will be to create a more integrated management team in the business unit, and lead a more uniformed commercial effort to foster stronger growth in the market. This Deputy MD will provide advice to the MD especially in the areas of Strategy, Acquisition, Budgetting and Commercial Plans. In addition, the Deputy MD will head the support operations such as sales order process, databases and marketing.
The Deputy MD will perform the CFO responsibility, leading finance function in the joint venture, and will cover Operation, Design, and IT. Sales and business development functions will be primarily covered by the MD, while the Deputy MD will assist the MD in important sales and business development efforts providing strategic and informational support as well as help in developing and managing senior level relationship with government organizations and business partners. Specific responsibilities include:
Manage all financial operations and organization of a US$40 million business, including financial and cost accounting, treasury and debt management, budgeting and strategic planning, and internal (JV partners) and external reporting (bankers, government, investor community and Board of Directors)
Supervise and coordinate a finance team, consolidate all financial related issues to be integrated to the financial system of Reed Exhibitions Greater China
Lead efforts to ensure operational, strategic, and financial coherence across the company and with Reed Exhibitions, including ensuring adequate financial resources to achieve company objectives
Supervise and drive the operation of the company, including the execution of company strategies, management of company product improvements and development, development of relationships with owner of exhibition venues in different locations, and coordination of all supporting functions to support the business growth
Assist MD to build and maintain important relationships at senior level, in fulfilling sales and business development objectives
Lead future merger & acquisition efforts of the company
EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate should have proven experience with an international company on general management roles (GM, DGM, COO) directing multiple functions such as finance, human resources, operations, and administration. He/she should have a clear sense on what is important to drive a business to grow. Meanwhile, he/she should have demonstrated ability to streamline and transform back office operations and administrative services if necessary. A background in a fast growing, dynamic, customer-facing, performance-based organization is necessary, and experience in similar industries is a plus. Previous experience on leading merger & acquisition efforts will be a plus.
The ideal candidate should be financially savvy, with a financial management background or a post-graduate education on finance. Joint venture experience or knowledge with Chinese enterprise would be a must. The candidate should have the potential to take on larger, more senior responsibilities within Reed Exhibitions. Excellent communication and persuasion skills in English and Mandarin are required; demonstrated track record of gaining consensus and building close relationships internally and externally is also required. An undergraduate degree is necessary; a graduate degree and qualifications are also preferred.
The successful candidate's key competencies for this position include:
10+ years working experience based in China, in a multinational company that has significant China-based operations.
Prefer to have previous experience of working in a holding company capacity with hands-on experience of managing joint venture partners in China
Good understanding of local and international accounting and reporting standards
Operational background and experience out side of financial management is a must (i.e. COO/GM experience in a fast growing company)
Excellent communication and persuasion skills and the ability to lead negotiations for mergers, acquisitions or major transactions by the company. Ability to speak publicly on behalf of the company on finance, strategy and operations
Fluent written and oral Mandarin Chinese and English

EDUCATION
Minimum Bachelors degree in a financial discipline, but if the candidate has a solid and successful career building up business that is a big plus and could be in lieu of. An MBA is ideal.
