Summary:

Provides software application engineering and/or networking support to the external customer base, sales organization and the product team for the assigned product offerings and the related manufacturing processes. Determines customer's existing and evolving technical software application needs and applies or adapts UIC products to satisfy those needs. Provides support both before and after the sale, and coordinates all issues with the appropriate product team to insure an accurate, detailed understanding and timely resolution of customer expectations and ongoing requirements.

1. Works directly with sales and customers as lead engineer on specific pre-sale or post-sale software or network application issues. With the customer, evaluates feasibility and alternatives.

2. With the product team, evaluates the significance of requested software applications/modifications as they relate to customer expectations and timing as well as product team resource availability.

3. Reviews customer's requirements and identifies projected savings based upon use of proposed offering.

4. May use PC price/performance software, prepares production capability and financial ROI analysis to assist the customer with software justification.

5. Determines with Engineering if the requested software applications or network proposals are feasible. If feasible, enters RFQ. If not feasible, responds to customer and sales person with alternatives.

6. Assists engineering or product team to develop a quotation, including development time, cost and schedule. Assists in developing cost and schedule.

7. May design, using CAD tools, and procure through the purchasing organization the materials necessary to manufacture applications tooling.

8. May assemble and test application simulations and integrate into base machines.

9. Works with product team and salesperson to establish selling price, delivery, terms and conditions, and formal quotation.

10. Explains requested software applications/modifications quotations to the customer, including justification as appropriate.

11. Assists salesperson with technical customer presentations, price negotiations, and customer acceptance criteria.
12. May monitor engineering development, delivery schedule, and advises customer and salesperson of progress.

13. Oversees installation to ensure that software and/or networking solutions are installed and function to customer specifications.

14. May assist in providing technical training to customer's employees.

15. Identifies need for sales tools and training relative to product or process applications. Assists the product team in developing those tools.

16. Assists in developing new product specifications, performance requirements, target cost and target sell price for new products, features and enhancements.

17. Whenever possible, presents papers at trade show and technical seminars to enhance Universal's reputation for product and process capability.

18. Coordinates requirements definition and integration of third part solutions on an as required basis to compliment existing Universal products. May work with the product team to identify complimentary third party solutions and provide local project management of on-site implementation.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Software, or Information Technology and five years’ experience in the capital goods industry, preferably in the development, sale, or support of software and/or networking solutions for printed circuit board assembly equipment. Requires knowledge and experience with Data Telecommunications, Local Area Networks, PC, and Host based applications.

SQL Server, VB, Java, COM, ODBC applications skills are desired. Knowledge of operating systems (OS/2,NT, 2000 Server/Professional, UNIX, Linux, Novell) and hands on experience with structured information and markup languages (XML, HTML) required.

IT and Database administration experience is desirable.
Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to make effective customer presentations in English are required.
