130208 Senior Laboratory Engineer

The position would directly report to SMT China R&D Manager, below please refer to the job description:

Key performance areas:

· Set up routines for operation of our laboratory which includes a Scanning Electron Microscope including the EDS-detector (SEM-EDS) , Light optical microscope, Stereomicroscope Image analysis software, Micro hardness tester (for thin and bulkier samples), Micro hardness tester, Interferometer, Ferrite scope and sample preparation equipment

· Responsible for maintenance, service and administration of the laboratory equipment and especially the SEM-EDS

· Create independently plans and performs materials analyses using internal or external resources-

· Prepares samples for SEM-EDS and other microscopy

· Interprets results and draws conclusions, documents findings in technical reports

· Teaches others in how to use the SEM-EDS equipment

· To assist the market and sales people within the organization in China with technical customer questions, especially with materials testing and other technical and material-related questions

· To assist our production units with materials testing and other technical and material-related questions

· To participate in customer meetings, seminars and conferences to present and discuss technical issues and customer questions

· To participate in scientific conferences with own papers and presentations

Your profile:

· At least 5 years of experience in Microscopy, especially in SEM-EDS, of steels.

· Major in MSc Materials analysis, materials science or similar.

· Able to communicate without problems orally and in writing, able to give presentations.

· Skilled in Microsoft Office programs, Lotus Notes, Internet and image analysis.

· Very familiar with the different steel grades, typical microstructures; phases, precipitates and defects.

· Trained in the use of scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy. At least two years of independent work with scanning electron microscopy and EDS-analysis, including daily maintenance.

· Good experience with microstructure analysis of materials, especially steels, which show microstructural or morphological effects from straining, fatigue, compression or rupture.

· Good experience with microstructure analysis of materials, especially steels, that show microstructural or morphological effects from corrosion, such as pitting, stress corrosion cracking or grain boundary attack.

· Good understanding of how heating and cooling can effect nucleation and growth. Able to correlate an abnormal microstructure to a possible thermal history.
