FUNCTION: Engineering
POSITION TITLE: Test & Development Engineer
REPORTS TO: Test and Validation Supervisor, Engineering China

I. POSITION PURPOSE:

AGCO will test and validate the components and machinery that it produces in China. Components and assemblies are received from within AGCO and 3rd parties, and for critical components AGCO must conduct the tests on these components to ensure they are thoroughly tested to AGCO Global Engineering Specifications and are fit for purpose.
Prototype machines and assemblies will also be produced within Engineering and they will require laboratory testing and field testing before release to production. This position is required to support the various test activities in AGCO China Engineering Department in order to support the product development process.



II. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITY: KEY MEASUREMENT:

? Conceive and provide practical test solutions for a variety of functional requirements ? Prepare test plans and specifications to meet AGCO requirements
? Support test activities at AGCO sites and 3rd party test centres ? Prepare components, assemblies and vehicles for test
? Support the design, purchase and commissioning of testing equipment ? Design test rigs for components and assemblies
? Analysis, recommendation and reporting of test results ? Prepare data loggers to record test data
? Support workshop activities on field test machines prior to field tests ? Produce test rig documentation and operation sheets
? Co-ordinate all test activities assigned to the job holder ? Analyse and report test findings from test activities (written and oral)

III. FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
Describe the level of knowledge of function work and activities required to fulfill the role. Is the role task driven/ procedural or is there a requirement to consider the application of principles and/or theory and practice?

The role requires a test engineer with experience in the automotive/off-highway field of complete machine and component testing and validation. This will include the design, set-up, commissioning of components or main assemblies on test benches and for whole vehicle validation tests.
The role will require the set up and use of instrumentation devices, calibration and measuring devices, data loggers and software to control data logging functions as required. Problem solving particularly with respect to mechanical development, control system development, hydraulic development. Correctly interpret test data and summarise the data into a formal report.

The job holder is expected to maintain a good level of understanding of the business. The job holder must have a good understanding of the purchasing, manufacturing and quality functions to the degree where they can provide input to these functions. A keen interest and knowledge of the agricultural industry not essential but an understanding of new test techniques and methods is required. The job holder will be expected to attend meetings when required and able to take minutes/notes turning them into reports when needed. The job holder is expected to represent the engineering department at inter-departmental meetings or with 3rd party test centres. The job holder will be expected to travel when required, either domestically or internationally.


V. LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
To what extent is the job responsible for guiding/supervising or managing people (including level of ‘authority’ and budgetary responsibility)

The job holder will not be required to manage staff directly but must be able to supervise other members involved in the test setup and the execution of tests. At this level the job holder will be required to work with engineering design teams in order to produce and/or validate their designs.
No budgetary control is required but knowledge of component test resource and costs is needed, some direction may be necessary. The job holder must be able to manage their own time and tasks in a manner which ensures they meet deadlines set by their manager.

VI. PROBLEM SOLVING:
Describe how problems are solved by the job holder

Problem solving will revolve around setting up specific tests either on bench or vehicle. The role will require the candidate to provide alternative test methods for the resolution of issues from test failure analysis and to follow instructions Component testing requires innovative solutions for part mounting and set up and creation of novel testing techniques. Whole machine testing can be a challenge in the environment they work in and a good degree of communication skills are needed

VII. NATURE OF IMPACT

This role is intended to help fulfill the testing and validation requirements for all AGCO products produced in China including domestic and export product. The role will also cover 3rd party product testing and validation. This role is intended to have a positive impact on the business in terms of timely completion of projects and products to market. The job holder has a responsibility to help maintain AGCO’s expected quality standards. The job holder is expected to work semi-autonomously and actively seek out the work required to be done. The job holder is expected to make suggestions for improvement and use their initiative at all times in order to progress the objectives and goals of the company. The job holder is responsible for the tasks allocated to them by their line manager and must execute them to a satisfactory conclusion. VIII. AREA OF IMPACT:
Describe which parts of the business the job impacts (internal and external), e.g. team, department, function.

This role principally has an impact on the engineering function of the business and will impact 3rd party external test centres in terms of testing capability. The job holder will be expected to have knowledge of other functions and will work alongside them when necessary. IX. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Describe the level and type of regular and ongoing interpersonal skills required with others, over and above superior/subordinate exchanges..

The job holder must be capable of direct (face to face) and indirect (Email, telephone etc…) communication with personnel within and outside of the company at all levels from shop floor staff to senior management. The job holder must be capable of expressing technical ideas, solutions and processes in Mandarin in spoken and written form. The ability to speak and write a good level of English is required and the desire to improve their level of English is a requirement.
The job holder must be able to accept change and respond appropriately. They must be flexible and willing to accept a variety of tasks as assigned.


X. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :
Indicate the qualifications and number of years experience required, including areas that are industry specific.

Minimum of a Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters Degree considered a plus)
Proven skills in test and development activities
Experience in testing of Automotive or Agricultural and/or off-highway vehicles (3+ years)
Trained in the use of Pro-E/CAD software
Strong data acquisition knowledge
Hydraulic systems test experience
Preferably have knowledge of the following areas:
PLC programming
SOMAT Equipment & software
MTS Equipment & software
AVL Dynamometer systems and software
Computer literate – MS office etc…
