Overall Purpose of Job

Responsible for providing technical product support to outside customers including product application studies, vehicle evaluations, and technical face to face contact. Additionally, this function oversees CSD product direction and its impact on vehicle system function from primarily the outside customer viewpoint.

Major Responsibilities

· Responsible for providing coordinated product application design guidelines

· Responsible for initiating vehicle evaluations concerning steering system performance and durability.

· Responsible for providing guidance and direction to establish product specification and performance requirements to CSD product engineering

· Responsible for setting CSD technical direction through participation in product committees, product design reviews.

· Responsible for maintaining good working relations with technical areas of outside customers

· Responsible for providing steering system design services to outside customers.

· Responsible for interfacing with outside customers in controversial and difficult situations.

· Work with Product Engineering to resolve product performance or endurance problems.

· Maintain knowledge of customer applications of CSD products

· Perform product application analysis of CSD products to insure compatibility

· Assist in determining customer technical needs regarding current and future products

· Assist in performing vehicle testing to quantify CSD product performance, assist customers in resolving vehicle performance problems and to provide CSD product engineering groups with product environment definition.

· Assist the Sales Department with technical publications and presentations

· Work with Product Engineering to provide concept drawings of new or revised products to customers for new and existing vehicles.

· Receives supervision from Chief Engineer-Systems Engineering

· Provides indirect supervision to designers and laboratory technicians

· Guidance provided to Sales, Product Litigation, Product Quality and Product Engineering regarding technical and Outside customer issues.

· Design services (CAD) provided to outside customers as needed for application studies

· Product concept drawings provided to internal product engineering groups

· System design analysis provided to outside customers

· Vehicle evaluation results provided to outside customers and to CSD product engineering groups

· General design guidance provided to outside customers

Education & Work Experience

BS in Engineering or similar technical discipline

Minimum of 5 years experience in engineering or technical sales in the areas of Medium/Heavy trucks or commercial vehicle steering systems. Prior experience with outside customer contact desired or demonstration of exceptional interpersonal skill required. Experience in using CAD (CAD-PACK, AutoCAD,UG,CATIA,ProE) to layout and analyze customer applications helpful.

Requirements:

· Extensive technical knowledge of current CSD products

· Knowledge of CSD operating systems and practices

· Knowledge of commercial vehicle chassis design

· Good interpersonal skills in dealing with customers, subordinates, and peers

· Good communications skills both verbal and written

· Ability and willingness to travel

· PC skills

· Technical knowledge of analysis techniques such as dynamic simulation, product life prediction and reliability analysis

· CAD skills
