Overall Purpose of Job

This should be a broad overview of this position's function. Include the overall scope of the position and the authority this position possesses in terms of programs/ projects/ operations and establishing policy.


· Sr. II SDE (Supplier Development Engineer) is key member of the SDE Department and the global SDE network and the first step towards management. The primary role of Sr. SDE II is the flawless introduction of new product PPAPs from current/new Chinese suppliers, i.e. on time and on quality. Secondly, Sr. II SDE is the team coordinator for the SDE manager. Additionally, this position is key in mentoring, coaching, teaching SDE I/IIs including stepping in for the SDE Manager in his/her absence


Major Responsibilities

Global SDE Processes, Tools and Methodologies: Understand, Execute and Training SDE I/IIs


  • For both AP local new product projects and global export for NA/EU, this position is well versed and experienced in the flawless execution of TRW SDE APQP/PPAP process using the following tools/methods but not limited to: APQP Phases 1-5, Design Review, PCM/SLP, Launch Readiness Audit and Run-at-Rate
  • Lead the OTS supplier submission to assure good parts are on Engineering PV tests
  • Fully understand and expertly use TRWs VIN Program Tracking System (PTS)
  • Evaluate new suppliers using the New Supplier Audit tool and make recommendations for sourcing
  • Create and execute Supplier Development Plans for new (or current) suppliers to bring them to the next operating performance level prior to SOP. Involves numerous engagements with


the supplier including senior management to change attitudes, fix systemic weaknesses and demonstrate that quality is leadership driven

  • Full and comprehensive working knowledge of TRWs Global Supply Quality Manual in the training, education and evaluation of TRW suppliers
  • Provide full support to the SQA function in the improvement of supplier performance and quality of responsiveness using the SDE Product & Process audit tool along with the SQA Supplier Quality Improvement process.
  • Participate in global SDE initiatives, e.g. global commodity cultivation teams including lead the team if required, process improvement teams,
  • Fully understand the active use of AIAG five core tools: APQP, SPC, MSA, PPAP and FMEA

Supplier Interface: Acts as the Voice of the Supplier


· Act as the supplier representative / voice for TRW-AP Purchasing. At times engages the supplier for improvements and actions while at times engages TRW functional groups on behalf of the supplier

· Verify that the supplier understands TRW QSQM requirements including the active use of VIN

· Bring cost savings ideas back from the supplier to Purchasing Commodity Management including the championing of some ideas through to implementation.

· Provide and/or lead 8D problem solving tools and methodologies with the supplier to assure solid root cause identification and irreversible corrective actions during the Launch phase


Process Knowledge / Usage: Commodity Specialist in Key Manufacturing Processes


· Understand the process minimum requirements for his/her assigned commodities

· Successfully engage with the supplier to make required improvements to protect TRW SOP.

· Train other SDE I/IIs in process requirements


Key Competencies

List the critical skills, abilities, and characteristics required to perform job responsibilities.

· Knowledge of quality standards such as ISO/TS 16949, VDA 6.3

· Good knowledge and experience with Quality Management tools such as APQP, PPAP, Problem Analysis Tools, etc

· Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

· Good time management

· Ability to lead meetings to a successful conclusion

· Experience in dealing with suppliers and senior management personnel



Education & Work Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Industrial Engineering or related technical field.
