Job description:
TITLE: SR. PLASTICS ENGINEER
Microsoft Hardware has almost 30 years of success as a worldwide leader in the computer input device industry. We are searching for a Senior Plastics Engineer that will be a key contributor to product success from marketing through production. This position will be based in Microsoft’s Asian Center for Hardware located in Shenzhen, PRC with the potential for short term assignment in Redmond, WA USA.
As a Senior Plastics Engineer, you will have the chance to shape product, business, and technology strategy in a startup environment by identifying new technologies, applying your molding and tooling experience, and leveraging supplier resources worldwide.
REQUIREMENTS
Lead MACH Plastic Engineering efforts for new product development for multiple programs simultaneously
Provide DFM input to cross discipline NPI team
Develop and implement sustaining engineering strategy to ensure fully value realized from Microsoft’s tooling investments
Manage plastic engineering relationship with Tier 1 contract manufacturers for all Hardware supply base
Lead junior plastic engineering staff and evaluate new hires for technical competency
Drive technical evaluations of Tier 2 tooling and molding vendor candidates
Independently handle transfer of tooling programs without disrupting continuity of supply
Troubleshoot and quickly remedy urgent plastic engineering issues
Generate cost savings through process optimization
QUALIFICATIONS
15+ years experience:
o Developing and optimizing injection molding processes for efficient cycle time and capability utilizing scientific molding principles
o Design input for high volume multi cavity Class I tooling
o Responsible for implementation of standard practices for both part and injection mold design
o Leading analysis and troubleshooting process for part designs, tool designs, and molding process issues with internal and external partners.
o Creating cost estimates for molding and tooling.
Experience and interest working with cross-functional/cross-culture teams both in Asia and the United States
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including working knowledge of MS Office products and experience presenting to Senior Staff via PowerPoint presentations.
Experience to build up and manage a team of plastic engineers with minimal supervision.
Ability to travel internationally up to 20% annually.
Ability to work independently
Desired skills and experience:
- Demonstrated team leadership and organizational management skills
- Leading RFQ exercises for both injection mold fabrication and plastic parts in Asia
- Specialty molding or finish expertise (e.g. Thixomolding, stackmolds, multi-shot, coatings, IMD/IML or optical tooling & processing…)
- Working knowledge of Six Sigma principles
- Pro Engineer, Moldflow, and other CAD/CAM software
- Leading supplier audits in US and Asia
