Join the Interactive Entertainment Business’s Manufacturing Test Engineering team and make your mark on Microsoft’s most advanced products. Our group designs and builds test systems for a wide range of highly innovative products. We are looking for an experienced and creative mechanical engineer who has a proven track record of developing test solutions for complex high volume consumer products. Job location will be in Microsoft Asia center of Hardware, Shenzhen, China.
As a successful candidate, you will be a contributor to system-level and sub-system mechanical designs through fast-paced development cycles. A strong mix of technical breadth and vision allow you to work cross-functionally to tie electronics, optics, software and mechanical assemblies into high quality test systems. You are highly motivated and enjoy bringing technical and tactical leadership to cross-disciplinary teams.
Your work experience includes a minimum of 10 years of mechanical design, with at least five years in the area of consumer electronics. Ideally this includes designing a variety of high volume manufacturing test system components such as fixtures, mechanisms, racks, and enclosures. A track record of innovation and experience in selecting materials and components to achieve cost targets is desired. The establishment of specifications and written test plans, including the development of test procedures to verify your mechanical designs, are integral to the position.
Additional responsibilities include project management of outside development partners, mechanical support for production qualification and ongoing process enhancements through part and process consolidation, technology integration, and component price negotiations. Experience in opto-mechanical and thermal design is preferred.
Excellent communication skill is required and some domestic and international travel is required.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, test, debug, document, and support mechanical structures of varying size, shape, materials, and complexity
- Perform engineering assessments of the design and production of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical systems
- Coordinate with and manage design partners and vendors
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance and repair processes for mechanical solutions
- Ability to travel as required
Basic Qualifications
- BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience developing mechanical systems
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
- Statistical analysis capabilities required
- Extensive Pro-E mechanical and SolidWorks CAD tool experience required
- Experience designing fixtures, mechanisms, racks, and enclosures preferred
- Experience delivering solutions for high-volume production preferred
- Extensive understanding of material properties preferred
- Requires ability to troubleshoot to root cause and solve complex problems.
- Job involves very detailed technical tasks - must understand product specifications as well as test equipment operation.
