Roles and Responsibilities
The Surface Team is seeking qualified candidates for a Hardware Design Verification Engineer. You will be responsible for the design verification and qualification of subsystems for the Surface (USB, HDMI, BlueTooth and software). You will develop comprehensive design verification strategies and plans that bridge high level use cases to product architecture/design. You will provide leadership and direction to other Design Verification Engineers and ensure all validation is completed and the customer experience goals are met. You will provide critical analysis on test data and drive the right solutions, design changes, and trade-off in the context of business priorities. On a frequent basis, you will create and introduce innovative test techniques and methods to ensure robust product qualification. In addition, you will utilize your knowledge of critical performance data and your statistical data analysis techniques to set product test requirements and limits. You will also lead test strategy discussions, develop test methodologies and plans, execute test procedures, debug/bring-up and project-manage qualification cycles.
Candidates will be required to use a working knowledge of Surace hardware system design and it’s interaction with firmware, standard computer interfaces such as USB, mDP, HDMI, wireless interfaces, software drivers and operating systems to develop and execute test plans.
Candidates should be able to apply core electrical engineering hardware and firmware skills to drive detailed problem solving on products within a technical team as well as manage broader industry standards, interoperability and compatibility testing with external development and test partners.
He/she should expect to use knowledge of critical performance metrics, product manufacturing environment and statistical data analysis techniques to develop manufacturing test requirements and limits.
Candidate should have excellent leadership and communication skills. He/she will be expected to lead technical teams consisting primarily of verification engineers in order to meet verification and test deliverables on product development teams. He/she will be required to work closely with overseas development teams. Within the functional discipline, she/he should be willing to provide guidance and mentoring to other team members. Additionally, this role will work with individuals and leaders across technical disciplines to build synergy and lead appropriate integration efforts to deliver effective and robust test solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related degree with relevant experience. MS preferred.
- 4 years eperience in design and verification of high volume consumer electronic devices.
- Detailed knowledge of USB device firmware, including HID, UAC, UVC or proven track record for USB protocol analysis and debug.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral communications.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong skill-set in analytical problem solving, a history of increasing responsibilities and decision-making experience.
- Domestic and international travel will be required.
Preferable Qualifications:
- MSEE preferred
- Experience with image/video compression technology and formats
- Experience in Windows Programming with Kernel and Embedded development a definite plus
- Knowledge of wireless technologies and implementations. 802.11x, Bluetooth, etc.
- Experience with ARM and x86 based processors.
- Experience with subsystems on the motherboard include (but are not limited to): High speed buses (front side bus, memory bus, PCIe bus, SATA bus, USB bus, I2S, etc.), memory, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, processors, audio/video, system clocking, power and thermal management, and misc. analog/digital circuitry.
- 6+ years experience in design and verification of high volume consumer electronic devices.
- 3+ years experience managing engineering teams.
