Job Title: Senior Principal Cost Engineer – Electromechanical
Report to: Cost Engineering Manager – AP HQ
Location: Shanghai
Job Description
Cost model development, maintenance, and application; cost savings identification and implementation; data collection and analysis. Primary commodity assignment is Electromechanical (Motors, Sensors, Connectors, Lead Frames or Wire Harnesses). Other commodities may be assigned based on business needs. Work closely with assigned Business Units / Product Lines to gain an understanding of product life cycles for assigned product lines and apply "clean sheet cost" models throughout the product life cycle for assigned commodities. Work with business unit and commodity teams to develop strategic and tactical action plan. Work closely with Global Purchasing commodity and product line managers to embed Cost Modeling into all sourcing decisions per plan. Work closely with Engineering and product line to embed Cost Modeling into core engineering/design to cost and engineering change decisions per plan. Accurately track and report financial impact of cost modeling projects and work closely with Finance and Purchasing teams. Mentor other analysts for cost model development and usage. Review the results before releasing to internal customers.
Required Skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, creativity, business and financial acumen, and a passion for understanding cost are required. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Minitab,
Siemen’s ProCalc or aPriori Costing software or any of the Industry cost estimating software is must. The position requires travel, international or domestic depending on the project demands. Depending on the project, the individual needs to present the project results to middle and upper management. Individual must have the flexibility to work in a dynamic environment and in a global role that requires coordination with team members in different time zones.
Required Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or business with a minimum of 6 years progressive experience in Cost Engineering / Estimating, Process Engineering, Product engineering, and/or Program Management. At least 2 years experience must be in electromechanical industry. Work experience with Automotive OEMs and suppliers is preferred but not a must. Prior experience with cross functional global teams is a must for this position.
