The Development Engineer supports the Software Engineering department within ALRAC’s Engineering group. A Development Engineer will be part of a software engineering team supporting avionics integrated surveillance system products through the development, test and verification life-cycle.
Gather product knowledge:
Expand knowledge: Product domain, Requirements, Design, Development, Test and Release software processes, tools, methods and coding best practices with primary emphasis on taking technical ownership in a software component of the product domain.
Software Architecture and Requirements Development:
Develop and document component and moderate changes to software requirements documentation, applying knowledge of processes, tools and methods in the management and tracking of software requirements baseline.
Software Development:
Design, code, test, integrate and document software of limited to moderate complexity within software services, software components, software test tools and software test scripts. Prepare software builds for execution in a simulation environment, reference platforms and on the target hardware. Understands and utilizes the appropriate software development processes and tools during product development, resulting in increased product quality and improving customer satisfaction.
Software Testing:
Create unit testing ability (along with continued regression testing ability) such that software components may be developed and comprehensively testing in a simulation environment – if such an environment does not exist, look for ways to create one.
Understand the interfaces and behaviors of external software and hardware components that interact with the currently developed component.
Software Integration:
Be able to use test equipment (e.g. processor emulator) and software debugging tools (e.g. Wireshark) to aid in the integration process. Learn techniques and skills required to identify a root cause of a given software integration issue
Teamwork:
Participate in cross-functional team efforts in integration, verification and validation for products and sub-systems of limited to moderate complexity.
Essential Skill & Competencies:
- Bachelor's Degree in applicable engineering or science field, and five years of related experience.
- Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in in English for work-related documents.
- Speaking - Can deliver concise and articulate speeches in English.
- Writing - Produces reports and proposals in English that are clearly and concisely written.
- Analysis - Demonstrates the ability to provide a general analysis of a problem or situation.
- Cooperation - Recognizes that individual goals contribute toward accomplishing team outcomes.
- Dependability - Demonstrates the ability to follow through with work assignments and support management's policies and procedures.
- Detail Orientation - Is able to provide the status of work assignments at any time and can quickly produce any documentation or information that is needed.
- Judgment - Demonstrates the ability to base decisions on factual information and sound logic.
- Listening - Exhibits good listening skills and identifies verbal and non-verbal situations fairly well.
- Time Management - Maintains a daily to-do list which helps to prioritize schedule.
