About This Job:

· This position is for a plant breeder with the leadership and technical capacity to fulfil the breeding responsibilities of a hot pepper breeding program for the sheephorn & bullhorn segment.

· The plant breeder is responsible for designing and executing breeding or technology projects that result in the improvement and innovation of Syngenta's pepper portfolio within the framework of product profile specifications.

· This role requires an understanding of molecular marker technology and the use of the most effective breeding methods that take advantage of the latest technology tools to accelerate progress and the development of successful commercial varieties.

· The plant breeder will create and deliver products and traits required for successful production of sheephorn & bullhorn hot peppers in the major growing regions in China.

· The breeder will work together with a team of scientists to execute projects using project management.

· Plan and control of project resource demand in portfolio.

· Organize, implement, and manage trials using proprietary software.

· Organize prototype testing in the market with preferred environment for the traits.

· Organize and manage field and greenhouse trial allocations accurately with site management.

· Ensure and deliver genetically pure parental lines for introduction and production of new products.

· Scout for new technologies/opportunities/germplasm

· Implement and apply new supporting technology in the breeding program

· Assist in the development of intellectual property

· Maintain strong relationships with internal personnel

· Establish good relations with growers and customers

· Establish good relations with external scientific community





Qualifications


Essential Knowledge & Experience:

· Knowledge of phytopathology, plant physiology, genetics, statistics, cell biology, and molecular markers

· Project management knowledge

· Computer skills with knowledge of database and software applications

· Supervisory experience

· Good project planning

· Good communicator internally and externally with team, upper management, customers, and scientific community.

· Good knowledge of plant breeding principles and genetics

· Good knowledge of crop management

· Keen eye for innovation

· Good sense of economics of processes and products

· Both independent and team player

· Ability to assess and resolve conflict

Preferred Knowledge & Experience:

· Experience in product development projects in breeding

· Three to four years’ experience preferred with M.S. degree, up to two years’ experience with a PhD.



Education/Qualifications:

· PhD or M.S. in plant science, with emphasis on breeding and genetics.

· Ability to speak English a must

· Must be able to work legally, without visa support in the country

· Frequent domestic and international travel essential
