POSITION DESCRIPTION

The individual chosen for this position will participate the product development team, referring to reliability engineering, to lead design for reliability, product stability related tasks in Medtronic China R&D Center, to achieve the requirements of user needs, product development, manufacture, and business.

As Senior Reliability Engineer, this position will cooperate with all BUs product development teams, to provide review comments on user needs, product feature and architecture definition, participate system level of risk analysis and lead DFMEA discussion, build the system reliability block diagrams to cover risk countermeasures and failure mitigations, allocate the system reliability goal by utilizing the specific predictive model, monitor the reliability test execution to accumulate the reliability growth, and provide the summary report when the demonstration achieves the reliability target. This position will assist or lead the root cause analysis if there is any reliability test failure. Meanwhile, this position could be the owner to define the product stability plan, monitor the test and hand out the summary report according to all Bus product needs.

The individual will report to Sr. Research Manager at Research, Technology & Clinical in Medtronic China R&D Center and will work closely with Corporate Technology and Business Unit R&D teams and other cross functional teams to drive product and service opportunities for China. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Review and determine the mapping from user needs to product requirements, provide the reliability information when the R&D team conducts the concept screening.

·       Participate the system level of risk analysis with product risk team; Lead the definition of DFMEA in terms of system architecture and functions.

·       Construct the system reliability model referring to system architecture and define the reliability allocation based on system target. The system reliability model shall conform to the internal and external interfaces as well as the weight of sub-system, modules and components, by correctly using the possibility distributions, such as exponential, Weibull.

·       Define the reliability / stability planning and lead the test according to the risk countermeasures and DFMEA action items. Address the appropriate test method on specific objectives, such as demonstration test, growth test, HALT, ALT, HASS, chemical resistance test, Burn-in testing, Part Stress Analysis, and Environmental Stress Screening.

·       Monitor the reliability / stability test execution. Lead the discussion to figure out the root cause analysis once there is any failure during the test. Facilitate the analysis with the proper tools, such as FTA, DOE, tolerance analysis. Review the design change proposal, assess the impact on the test timeline and update the relevant documents in DHF, including but not limited on DFMEA, test plan and test report.

·       Provide the statistical analysis on reliability / stability results to hand out summary report. Assist the design review activities to pass the PDP milestones.

·       Follow all Quality System Practices as defined by product development process, policies and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that FDA, ISO and European Medical Device quality standards and regulations are met where applicable.

·       All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System.

·       Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.

·       All other duties as assigned.

·       Ability to travel domestically and internationally.  Travel requirement: less than 25%.

·       Actively participate in standards (ASTM, ISO) development and industry conferences in the area of all these technologies for medical devices.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED       

·       Master’s degree in Reliability Engineering (or other Engineering or Sciences), or related field with 5+ years of work experience is required.

·       Be familiar with the medical device related standards, guidance of regulatory etc.

·       Qualified experience of DFSS (Design for Six-Sigma).

·       Expertise with reliability engineering software such as Minitab, ReliaSoft®, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio and PowerPoint.

·       Speak and write Mandarin and English fluently.

·       Excellent customer service skills, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

·       Solid background in engineering (ME, EE, SW or Sciences)

·       Excellent technical writing skills

·       Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence others.

·       Able to work effectively in heavily matrixed environment.

·       Able to work in direct, cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.

·       Able to develop objectives, work plans and measurements that are aligned with department strategies.

·       Strong work ethic and initiative in accomplishing objectives.

·       Demonstrated experience in meeting time to market needs with a high quality product.

·       Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.

·       Strong organization and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and junior level staff

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       PhD in Reliability Engineering (or related technical degree)

·       8+ years of experience in biomedical research or development of medical products
