Role purpose  

As part of a growing Product Safety team in China, to be responsible for the delivery of environmental fate data and risk assessments in China. This will require working with the Syngenta China regulatory, biology and commercial teams to understand detailed project requirements. Interactions with the global Product Safety organisation in other regions is also required as is the need to interact with regulatory agencies and scientific organisations within China.

Accountabilities   

• As a specialist in the field of environmental fate and risk assessment to manage the delivery of environmental fate studies and risk assessments to support registrations in China ·       
• Provide technical expertise to identify and solve key scientific problems, with a focus on how to provide data and risk assessments in ways acceptable to ICAMA ·       
• By understanding the current and evolving Chinese regulatory guidelines for environmental fate and risk assessment to provide advice to project teams, highlighting project risks and potential solutions ·       
• To participate in discussions with external regulatory agencies e.g. ICAMA and other stakeholders on the acceptability of Syngenta’s approaches ·        
• To work with Syngenta environmental safety experts globally to ensure the requirements for China are understood and to facilitate the use of wider company expertise in China

Critical success factors & key challenges  

• To be responsible for delivering programmes of environmental fate data and risk assessments in China ·       
• To build and maintain relationships and credibility with Syngenta teams in China and also with Syngenta’s global environmental safety experts Knowledge, experience & capabilities  

 Critical knowledge         

• Qualified to at least degree level in a scientific subject ·       
• Technically trained in environmental fate or environmental risk assessment through a combination of education and work experience ·       
• An understanding of the current and evolving Chinese regulatory requirements for environmental fate and risk assessments Critical experience ·       
• Delivery of environmental fate data or risk assessments for pesticides or other chemicals ·       
• Presenting and advocating technical solutions to internal and external stakeholders ·       
• Working in multi-disciplinary project teams
