As an AMEA Strategic and Business Intelligence Specialist, you will be part of the Asia, Middle East & Africa Business and Region Function Business Development (BL) Business Line, based in Beijing.


? In many countries the grid is being disrupted faster than ever before, by Deregulation, Distributed Energy Resources & Digitalization. Power Grids is seeking to track these innovations to understand early the opportunities from new business models and the threat from the destruction of old ones. It is important to take a holistic open view of the T&D player landscape and not the traditional view of customers and competitors.
? For each of the major countries in the region, and for the total region a number of macro-economic and other leading Power Grids market indicators shall be tracked (historical + forecast). These may include but shall not be limited to: GDP, electricity consumption, peak load, reserve margin, solar + wind penetration, battery storage market, EV penetration, rail electrification, data-center growth.
? A market model that records and predicts total market, available market and offered market. Each Regional Business Intelligence Manager shall be responsible for quantitatively tracking the activity of one major traditional competitor, and several emerging competitors (whose HQ is typically in the region). Furthermore, a data-base of wild-card competitors shall be kept, these shall include large existing players, who might / or who are moving into the Power Grids competitive landscape (e.g. Envision, Oracle) as well as start-ups. For each wild-card competitor a SWOT analysis should be maintained. Wild-card or other competitors who could potentially be the target of inorganic investment (via M&A or ATV) shall be flagged to the Global Head of Business Development. Occasionally Initial for these potential inorganic Target Assessments shall be prepared in-part.
? The activities of key current and potential future Power Grids customers shall be tracked both qualitatively and quantitatively. Customers tracked shall include utilities, large industrial customers, EPCs, non-traditional grid infrastructure owners and operators, rail infrastructure owners etc. The customers tracked shall be geographically dispersed throughout the region.
? A variety of top-down and bottom-up methods should be used to gather data. These shall include but not be limited to external market reports, publically available data, webinars, external conferences, customer & internal sales person interviews etc.
? Collaboration and teamwork shall be established first and foremost with the other Regional Business Intelligence Managers to share best practice and to develop a globally consistent way of working. There shall also be strong collaboration with the LSMs for the key countries in the regions as well as key BU Sales and Marketing resource in the region (e.g. Hub BU Sales & Marketing Manager).
? Living ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.


? A University degree holder in marketing / economics / business / English / engineering or related disciplines.
? 3-5 years’ experience in strategic planning, management consulting, business development or marketing research related functions. Oversea background is a plus.
? Rich experience in macro-economic or marketing analysis and its impact.
? Familiar with the statistic system and database. strong network of reliable information sources.
? Logic thinking and strong analytical skills with framework to process complicated issues.
? Good inter-personality and strong team work spirit
? Outgoing personality with good communication skills
? Self-initiative, strong ownership and responsibility
? Good knowledge of using MS Word, PPT, Excel;
? Language proficiency (written and spoken) in both English and Mandarin
? Likes challenges and willing to work under pressure.
? Strong analytical skills and experience in gathering and analyzing market intelligence.
? A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and strong communication skills.
