General Information:

ABB's corporate research centers are located in seven countries around the world and are supporting the power as well as the automation divisions.
The Shanghai research department belongs to the Chinese Corporate Research Center and is focusing on Mechatronics & Robotics technology. We are supporting the local robotics product development department as well as our partners in Europe and US.
Industrial research means looking for new technology and mapping it to ABB products according to business needs. As a member of Corporate Research you will execute such industrial research projects either as a team member or project manager to help turning them into innovative products. You will work in close cooperation with the local robotics product development department as well as with other research teams in Sweden, Germany and the US to synchronize your work.
Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
· Independently conduct R&D work for the global automation lab to support Mechatronics and Robotics product development and provide support to automation business unit
· Apply industrial control knowledge in mechatronics applications, develop appropriate control technologies for mechatronics systems, and realize control objectives in a practical way
· Design and setup of lab testing and other experimental work
· Technology Surveys and pre-studies
· Write internal technical reports, file patents, and publish articles/papers in English
· Support other development projects and ABB business supporting projects
· Project management
· Develop international social network and cooperating with both internal and external partners

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
· PhD in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering is preferred, or MSc with at least three year of work experience in the field of mechatronics and/or robotics
· Solid background in industrial control theory and its application, with knowledge of modeling, simulation, signal processing and diagnostics, etc.
· Hands-on experience in development of control systems in mechatronics applications, including but not limited to robots, PLCs, motors, etc.
· Analytical, open minded for new solutions, creative and action oriented
· Business oriented and strategic thinking
· Willing to take difficult tasks and challenges, self-motivated, and interested in learning and investigating into new things
· Excellent written & spoken English
· Good communication and presentation skills
· Team player with high level of initiative and pragmatic approach
· Genuine interest in solving technical problems
· Interested in global cooperation and knowledge-sharing
