Responsibility:

As a Manufacturing Project Engineer you will work as member of the Project Engineering team to support localization of purchase finished parts for Powertrain production to China. Monitor and track the successful completion on the ramp down and ramp-up migration of each individual part. Conduct regular review of sourcing change progress, identify issues/gaps, and develop mitigation actions. Monitor PPAPs to insure that new sourcing meets quality standards and requirements. Must manage capital spend and drive improvement to proper areas.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Works with suppliers (both internal and external) in the development of projects, which ensure the most efficient and cost effective systems or operations to produce quality products.
Ensures Engineering, Purchasing and shop personnel both at Caterpillar and suppliers are involved in the approval process so that sound decisions are made which improve manufacturing processes, quality and/or reduce costs.
Provides leadership in the implementation of projects and prepares and establishes priorities for cost effectiveness. Performs liaison duties with various functional areas to promote smooth transition.
Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety,
ergonomics, etc., in performing assigned duties.
The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems. The incumbent generally resolves issues by following departmental guidelines or applying a solution that worked in the past. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results. Work is reviewed after completion, except in the most complex or high impact situations. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, ISO 9000 Certification, etc. The position meets or exceeds quality standard set for the measure(s) stated.


Required Qualifications:

* Requires considerable experience in the various manufacturing disciplines gained through previous staff and/ or supervisory assignments.
* College degree in an appropriate engineering or technical discipline combined with a minimum of 2 years of appropriate experience as a Manufacturing / Quality Engineer.
* Able and have leadership skills to work with people from many different backgrounds, cultures and levels within the organization.
* Good interpersonal skills to develop a collaborative/cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the business unit.
* Strong analytical skills with proven team leadership skills.
* Experience and strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Project Management, and quality validation through APQP/PPAP.
* Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills. Including reading and writing in English.

Desired Qualifications:

* Strong understanding of the Caterpillar organization, products, policies, and procedures.
* Prior 6 Sigma Green Belt experience.
