JOB PURPOSE: To manage the planning, development, and implementation of education and training programs and activities to accomplish corporate, plant, and departmental objectives to improve employee performance.
JOB DUTIES:
Reporting to this position are lower level training specialists, apprentices, trainees and
salaried training support personnel.
Incumbent manages the training activities and functions at facilities. Includes supervising,
training and developing a staff of training consultants and/or training specialists who are capable of responding to training needs of the environment and meeting assigned objectives. Performs budgeting process to assure goals and objectives are accomplished.
Identifies and selects appropriate education or training processes and methods required to satisfy needs of the organization. Coordinates and supervises implementation of in-house developed training, off-the-shelf packages, vendor provided and custom developed packages, etc. Provides feedback on training ideas and results to all levels of bargaining unit personnel and management.
Analyzes jobs to determine specific required skills/knowledge. Uses the Skills Management System andevaluates training programs and materials available to meet changing demands of the work environment. Counsels employees on training requirements for career development.
Designs, develops and coordinates classroom and on-the-job training for various technical or management development programs. Maintains a close working relationship with operating management, incorporating their ideas into training plans and providing solutions to their training problems.
Maintains current knowledge of the latest technologies in training development and instructional design to produce education and training activities to improve performance, quality of product, and technical and managerial skills of employees. Maintains contacts with colleges, universities, and outside training consultants and vendors to ensure corporate and profit/service center training programs continue to produce a highly skilled workforce.
Incumbent is responsible for obtaining support from line management to ensure availability of resources for training.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Requires extensive knowledge of and experience in the organization, a working knowledge of profit and service centers, and prior experience as an instructor/developer.
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to direct and motivate others.
Knowledge of company and organizational practices and procedures is required.
