JOB PURPOSE:

To supervise the operations of one to five Team Leads assigned manufacturing areas in close cooperation with more senior members of management.

JOB DUTIES:

This is the first line supervisor position to supervise various disciplines of the manufacturing process including assembly, heat treat, cell manufacturing, fabrication, etc.

Principle activities include:

1. Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor; eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe and clean production environment.

2. Ensures processing needs to assure fixtures, tooling and methods are provided.

3. Meet schedules and production requirements.

4. Determines priorities and schedules the sequence of jobs.

5. Determines overtime need, determines priorities when resources are insufficient, and decides when disciplinary action is necessary.

6. Produces product to meet quality standards while maintaining cost.

7. Ensures necessary parts and materials are ordered and distributed in a timely and efficient manner.

8. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. Works to improve processes, timeliness and reduce costs by eliminating non-value added activities.

9. Ensures preventive maintenance is performed according to schedule.

10. Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, Internal Certification, etc.

11. Evaluate, assess, and identify training needs of the workforce.

12. Ensures training and effective utilization of work force.

13. Position should have good working knowledge of labor rules and regulations.

CPS responsibilities include:

1. Owns the value stream map for their respective section. Partners with support groups in the implementation of changes needed to achieve future state.

2. Adjusts section staffing to meet flow and customer requirements.

3. Practices and teaches CPS Guiding Principles.

4. Initiates and conducts process improvement dialogs with Team Leads and Team Members.

5. Drives Root Cause identification. Drives Continuous Improvement process.

6. Reports section status. Monitors and audits PQVC metrics.

7. Assists with creating, training and implementing standard work.

This job has complete responsibility for production line scheduling, material ordering, maintenance coordination, etc. This position will report to a Group Manager, but both levels would not be used on the same shift.

Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, affirmative action, etc. in performing assigned duties.

Qualifications

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

Requires a thorough knowledge of CPS processes and tools, machine shop operations, equipment and processes plus familiarity with materials and quality objectives. A college degree or its equivalent is required for this position. Must complete the CPS Section Manager functional Curriculum. Prior experience in planning and/or shop experience is desirable. Recommend 2-3 years of supervisory experience. Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.
