POSITION SUMMARY
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and performance materials, has an immediate opening for an experienced BLACK BELT in the high growth Performance Materials Division (PMD) to drive and support the Continuous Improvement goals utilizing Six Sigma and Lean techniques.
The Black Belt's primary focus is to lead projects and events in a broad range of functional areas throughout the PMD value chain that apply the Continuous Improvement (CI) model and tools to positively impact business results. This position also requires promoting the value and importance of CI within the PMD Asia organization, and structuring how CI is applied through the value chain and work processes. Lastly, the Black Belt will mentor and guide personnel in their CI skills development.
The position is located at our Shanghai regional office and requires 20% travel to manufacturing facilities and sites in Asia.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY
1) Lead and execute CI projects and events that deliver annual cost improvements and hard benefits. The projects undertaken by the Black Belt are expected to impact a wide range of functions and activities supporting the PMD business model.
2) Promote and communicate actively in the PMD organization on the value and importance of using CI tools and their contributions to business results.
3) Structure and standardize the CI tools, teachings, and methodologies in PMD business activities and processes.
4) Mentor and coach team members on the use of CI tools and development of their CI capabilities.
The Black Belt will perform activities in a way that promotes a team culture and reflects the philosophy of the CI Model. This role will work across functions and diverse cultures in the region to define opportunities, align teams, plan the approach, execute the improvement programs, deliver and measure the results, and share learnings from the implementation. The Black Belt will also advocate for new ways of doing things and challenging conventional wisdom with demonstrating proven improvement strategies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND CAPABILITIES (CURRENT AND/OR TO BE DEVELOPED)
Qualified candidates must possess proven Lean / Sigma experience in the form of driving change and delivering business results in a manufacturing environment.
? Profound knowledge and mastery of Lean / Sigma required.
? Experience in leading 5-10 Lean / Sigma projects and strong project management skills.
? 5 -10 years experience in the Chemicals industry or a related field is preferred.
? Strong leadership, influencing, change management skills, and team work background.
? Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese.
? Business results oriented, data-driven with good analytical skills.
? Bachelor or Master Degree in Chemical Engineering, or another technical discipline preferred.
? In-depth understanding of commercial processes, supply chain planning, procurement, optimization and execution are plusses.
