BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
In alignment with Our Merchandising's goals and direction, develop / build sourcing strategy for areas of product responsibility, drive vendor sourcing / evaluation, vendor / product development activities and provide leadership and necessary support to subordinate sourcing teams to ensure on time execution and quality products that meet or exceed our customer's needs / expectations. Responsible for developing and cultivating vendor partnerships to meet current and future needs according to strategic direction of product categories. Direct price negotiation with suppliers. Accountable for success / failure in product category as determined by key company metrics including FOB shipments, import sales and margin %, on time shipments, etc.. Candidate demonstrates superior business skills, financial expertise, relationship effectiveness, business networking and versatility by being flexible and adaptive to the strategic direction of the organization. Engage and inspire current teams to meet or exceed job responsibilities, while also working to build talent for succession planning within the organization. Job function includes frequent travel to vendors to promote vendor relationships, product development and troubleshooting initiatives. Manage related expenses in accordance to budget.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) In alignment with Our Merchandising's goals and direction, develop / build sourcing strategy for areas of product responsibility, drive vendor sourcing / evaluation, vendor / product development activities and provide leadership and necessary support to subordinate sourcing teams to ensure on time execution and quality products that meet or exceed our customer's needs / expectations.
? Foster open communication via frequent phone / email communication with the International Merchandising teams to understand US Merchandising's goals and direction for specific product categories.
? Partner with the International Merchandising teams to set the high level sourcing strategy / vision and BATNA's for the SM team with direct vendors.
? Set clear objectives and lead buying trips for North American visitors.
? Active role in identifying and resolving operational issues for both direct and indirect vendors.
? Negotiate superior pricing programs with suppliers.
? Drive / manage product execution from concept to in store delivery of quality product.
? Partner with Manufacturing Development Engineer / QA / Logistics to ensure teams are finding and utilizing high caliber vendors.
? Guide SM team to build realistic tactical plans to meet their sourcing strategy, project timelines and product specifications.
? Manage, debrief and improve current processes (way of working) to gain efficiencies. Share efficiencies across other SSM's and LGS offices.
? Proactively manage SM teams to anticipate possible pitfalls and if an issue arises, insure corrective action is taken swiftly and addresses the root cause to fix the issue at hand as well as prevent recurrences. Share key learnings across other Sourcing Teams and LGS offices.
2) Responsible for developing and cultivating vendor partnerships to meet current and future needs according to strategic direction of product categories.
? Average travel of 2 days per week to new and existing vendor factory locations to meet and develop relationships with factory owners and top management. Overnight travel is required.
? Acquire an understanding of factory organizational structure and financial feasibility (i.e. Z-Score, banking relationships, holding companies and affiliates, etc.).
? Evaluation of factory production to ensure that they are able to meet Our requirements as it relates to production output and quality. Work closely and openly with LGS Logistics and QA for support in accomplishing this responsibility.
? Review vendor's overall current and potential product capabilities to determine if there are opportunities across other SSM areas.
3) Accountable for success / failure in assigned business areas as determined by key company metrics including FOB shipments, import sales and margin %, on time shipments, etc.
? Details of key performance metrics to be announced annually:
o Increased FOB shipments, sales and margin %
o Increased vendor development, including BATNA success
o Increased new country / region development
o Product return rate reduction
o Increased import penetration %
4) Engage and inspire current teams to meet or exceed job responsibilities, while also working to build talent for succession planning within the organization.
? Lead teams through positive management techniques to utilize effective communication, influence others, engage and inspire, show drive and initiative and analyze issues.
? Coach and develop SM level while also teaching them how to coach and develop the SS level in job related skills through work assignment, direct training and regular feedback in order to achieve our current / future goals and succession planning needs.
? Make employment decisions/recommendations; monitor and adjust staffing levels to meet work requirements.
? Monitor team members' progress in meeting goals and objectives.
? Establish performance objectives, assign and direct work, monitor work and appraise performance, both informally and formally in writing via the mid-year and year-end appraisal and weekly one on one meeting.
? Communicate and ensure company policies and procedures are followed.
5) Administer expenses within budgetary guidelines and approve SM expenses within established guidelines.
6) Perform additional related responsibilities as requested.
NECESSARY SKILLS
1. Business or professional degree.
2. 10+ years of relevant industry experience related to the North American retail market.
3. 5+ years of managerial experience.
4. Direct management of business volume in excess of $100 million USD.
5. Demonstrated leadership of teams - both direct reports and cross business functions.
6. Solid business acumen.
7. Proven strategic planner.
8. Excels at relationship management.
9. Requires strong well-demonstrated leadership skills.
10. Experience in International Business, Sourcing and Merchandising.
11. Effective written and oral communication both in English and Chinese.
12. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
13. Ability to work in foreign environments.
