Job Title: Direct Material Purchasing Manager JD No:
Department: Purchasing Level: 7
Location: Nexteer Steering (Suzhou or Shanghai) Category: Salaried
Reports To: Supply Management Manger – Nexteer China Direct Reports: Direct Buyers
General Purpose of the Position:
Provide the organization a world class supply base that meets or exceeds Nexteer’s business expectations for cost, quality, launch readiness, and delivery of direct material components.
Main Responsibilities
1) Cooperate with other organizations to make the best supplier selection for Nexteer
2) Supervise buyers to negotiate contracts, prices, and terms with outside suppliers
3) Develop and maintain sourcing strategies for China in cooperation with global commodity managers
4) Manage supplier commercial issues and ensure compliance to processes, policies, and procedures
5) Establish annual material budget and perform monthly performance analysis
6) Work with buyers to develop and implement plans to meet budgeted material cost savings
7) Support teamwork and create an environment fostering creativity and excellence
8) Strengthen team with appropriate training, coaching, and by having the right people in the right place
Job Requirements
1) Have a 4yr University degree in Supply Management, Business, or Engineering.
2) At least 5+ years of purchasing experience in the automotive industry.
3) Able to function independently with minimal supervision & technical guidance.
4) Excellent negotiation skills with strong knowledge of purchasing strategies.
5) Strong commercial, analytical, and leadership skills.
6) Works effectively under pressure & deadlines with an ability to balance and manage supply risk.
7) Excellent oral, written, and English communication skills.
8) Must have strong interpersonal skills & ability to build strong relationships both internally & externally.
9) Resilient, assertive, results oriented, dedicated, perseverant, and tenacious.
10) Must be organized, detail oriented, with ability to build plans and implement a strategy
Preferred Experience
1) Knowledge of Nexteer and steering products
2) Knowledge of commodities, materials and products being purchased.
3) Culturally sensitive with the ability to build, develop, and motivate a team
4) Ability to read drawings and understand basic engineering documents.
