Job Title: Mechatronic Engineer(ing)
Minimum Qualifications
University Degree in Mechatronic Engineering, PEng designation preferred
5 years relevant work experience preferably in powertrain development
High level of analytical ability, understand of engineering theory and principles of design
Technical Skills Requirements
Knowledge of ANSI, SAE, QS-9000/TS16949 and other industry/customer related standards.
Participate in developing of Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA).
Participate in developing testing and validation plans (DVP&R).
Knowledge of GD&T, QFD, VE/VA, DOE, PFMEA, DFM/DFA/DFS and supporting analytical tools.
Blue Print reading, advanced measuring techniques, computer literate
Understanding of 8D and other recognized problem solving techniques applicable the automotive
industry.
Awareness of concurrent and simultaneous engineering techniques with the ability to work as part
of a project team to achieve results often with short or compressed timing.
Competent and experienced at writing engineering reports suitable for issue to Customer.
Knowledge and experience of project/program management techniques.
Ability to read, develop or manage project time lines.
Ability to work clearly and logically in all circumstances including where project timescales are short,
deadlines are tight or where it is necessary to resolve customer problems.
Experience of APQP process and other industry/customer related standards applicable to product
design, development and launch.
Primary Function
Responsible for research, design, develop, maintain and manage of new and existing electronic
motors, control systems, actuation systems and other components for mechanical/electronic
powertrain parts. Must be able to interphase with several Magna Powertrain Divisions and Tier 2
suppliers in overall product design of mechatronic engine components and modules. Will be
required to communicate with the end customer as necessary to meet all project objectives.
Responsible to cascade specifications from system to component level and delivery of product
designs to production
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible to cascade specifications from system to component level and delivery of product
designs to production
2. Documentation of detail design, analysis, computer modeling, prototype/production drawings and
specification releases.
3. Conduct research, new tools, best practices and alternative approaches to optimize electrical
components and software development
4. Enhance and apply mechatronic or automated solutions to the transfer of material, electronics, or
mechanical components
5. Investigate and apply electronic and mechanical processes
6. investigate the feasibility, costs implications and performance benefits of new mechatronic
components/assemblies
7. Candidate will work with designers and technicians from supporting engineering disciplines to
converge on overall design solution
8. Supports Testing & Validation department by specifying test requirement & ensuring tests are
completed to specification.
9. Participates in APQP meetings and is fundamentally involved in the DFMEA creation.
10.Attends meetings with customers, with respect to design/unch reviews.
11.Responsible for activities related to assigned projects, as per QS-9000/TS 16949 procedures (i.e.
APQP, Design FMEAs).
12.Prepare and work to schedules with interim and end target estimates for all projects within his/her
responsibility.
13.Prepares reports when requested.
14.Ensures all meetings are minuted circulated and filed accordingly.
15.Maintains proper filing systems to ensure all information, (electronic or hard copy), is properly stored
and easily retrieved.
16.Undertakes other duties and responsibilities within MPT FP&CG, as required by the Global Team
Leader or the NA Engineering Manager
17.Follows and enforces the guidelines and rules as defined in the Employee Handbook and Company
policies.
18.May be required to work "onsite" at customer locations for different periods of time.
19.Some foreign travel to be expected.
20.Available for frequent travel on Company business.
