Based: Korla, Xinjiang or Shijiazhuang, Hebei or Beijing with additional travel
Organic Cotton Project Manager Role
CottonConnect is looking to recruit a Manager for our Organic Cotton Project to work on successful implementation of various aspects of the programme. The Organic Project Manager will be responsible for the implementation of the operational plans/ strategy and for delivering the desired impacts across all the organic cotton projects in China.
The ideal candidate will combine networking skills with effective delivery; and be able to grow the organic cotton farm programmes by developing future service offerings while establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. customers, farm groups, government, academic institutions) in order to support our vision of creating more sustainable cotton supply chains along with achieving the social, agronomical and environmental targets.
The Organic Cotton Project Manager will be key to:
? Delivery of organic cotton projects in China
? Understanding and developing opportunities for growing organic cotton projects related activities and projects to help benefit cotton farmers and their extended families
? Bringing cutting edge thinking to organic agricultural practice including new technologies
? Unlocking new business opportunities and operational models for CottonConnect
This role is core to the future of CottonConnect not only in terms of its operational future but also in delivering the organisational mission and vision.
Key Accountabilities
Strategy
- Drive the strategic direction and operational plans for delivery of the organic cotton projects for CottonConnect including mitigating/ working on various risks and challenges that the organic cotton sector is facing in general.
- Develop a network of organic cotton supporters and practitioners to expand organic cotton farmer numbers and growing areas
Functional
- Deliver against the Operational Plan targets e.g. training of farmers, reduction in input costs, increase in farmer yields and incomes, access to technology and better inputs, access to finance through delivery of CottonConnect’s organic farm programmes
- Develop a network of service providers / local partners and supply chain partners from seed breeders to farmers to ginners and spinners to help address the issue of integrity; and develop and implement a strategy to mitigate the associated risks.
- Develop a strong assessment mechanism to monitor the Organic Farm Operations and to drive continous improvement
Farm Operation Models
- Create new farm operation models and project development opportunities for CottonConnect
- Develop efficient and effective Organic farm operation propositions for customers working with the Customer / Commercial teams to actively engage with customers to understand current and future needs
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Monitor and evaluate project progress against project proposals and log frames.
- Develop M&E reports, project quarterly and annual reports.
External Engagement
- Demonstrate leadership in innovation externally to key stakeholders including potential customers, government and industry platforms

Personal Experience / Qualifications / Skills
Experience
? At least 10 years’ working experience in agricultural field, with professional experience in cotton or organic agriculture and a proven track record of developing and delivering organic farm operation projects and growing new business
? Significant experience in working in organic cotton projects and Farm Operations is preferred
? Demonstration of strong knowledge on sustainable agricultural practices and sustainability issues
? Experience of developing innovative platforms and products
Qualifications and requirements
? University degree in Agricultural Sciences required and Master degree preferred.
? Self-starter and result oriented
? Ability to influence and engage across a variety of audiences
? Collaborative and team player
? Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a proactive approach
? Good command of English including writing and speaking
? Good proposal and report writing skills
? Frequent Travel within China, particularly to offices & project locations in Xinjiang, Hebei and other provinces will be required
