Achieve Xiamen International School is seeking a Librarian to support learning and teaching in the school, in collaboration with educational staff.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary purpose of this position is to provide support for teaching and learning, provide clerical and technical management for resources and operations and to build the library community program. The librarian is responsible for the tasks to allow the school library to function effectively.
The AXIS International School Founding Librarian manifests excellence in education by ensuring that students demonstrate progression in:

Scope of Responsibilities
The AXIS International School Founding Librarian is responsible for:
1. Teaching and Learning: provide support for the teaching and learning programs by:
§ assisting students and staff to identify, locate and evaluate electronic and print resources;
§ prepare materials and resources for library classes and classes;
§ promote resources to students and staff;
§ assisting in the review and selection of English and Chinese resources and the collection development;
§ working cooperatively with colleagues to connect learning across subjects;
2. Resources and Operations: provide clerical and technical management and support for the acquisition, circulation and maintenance of resources by;
§ assisting in ordering and acquisition of resources;
§ developing and managing online library catalogue;
§ entering and editing data in the Library Management System, Follett Destiny
§ online cataloguing of resources (e.g. Titlewave);
§ performing day-to-day and project specific operations of Destiny, circulation, reports and resource Lists, etc;
§ supervise the library, open and close the library;
§ catalogue/re-catalogue as needed;
§ responsible for the regular running and dissemination of overdue resource reports;
§ shelve books and other items; check that they are in the proper order (DDC);
§ annual inventory of materials;
§ organize displays and promotion activities to highlight special library and school events;
§ process periodicals and print materials;
§ update labels and book covers as necessary;
§ assist community with the use of the Library;
§ maintain organization of library materials and a library calendar;
§ help maintain discipline.
3. Technology Skills: displaying competence and confidence in using Information & Communications Technology (ICT) with the following:
§ computerized library systems (e.g Destiny, Sora);
§ apple computers and iPads;
§ internet search engines and online databases;
§ word-processing and publishing software;
§ enhancing library lessons with mobile or computer devices;
§ communicating appropriately and effectively with others in the AXIS community, including students, parents, and school faculty and staff;
§ seeking ongoing professional development opportunities.
4. Community: Promoting good rapport with students, staff, parents and community by:
§ respecting the confidentiality of student and staff concerns;
§ maintaining day-to-day liaison with staff, students and parents;
§ foster positive, supportive and genuine relationships with AXIS staff and the AXIS community;
§ support library programs and goals;
§ develop and maintain strong relationships with adolescents and adults;
5. Standards of Quality Assurance
§ demonstrating accurate and up-to-date knowledge of curriculum and subject matter;
§ maintaining superior work attendance;
§ being self-motivated and assuming responsibility willingly;
§ being willing to expend effort and energy beyond the typical school day;
§ using the AXIS performance appraisal system as a means to improve student learning by focusing on one’s own professional learning;
§ being prepared to undertake any other duties requested by the HOS.
Required Experience, Training and Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree with at least two years teaching experience;
· Preferably, certification/licensure in library management;
· Experience in a school library;
· Fluency in English and Mandarin with excellent knowledge of oral and written English; language (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension) and an interest in literature;
· A strong team player with good interpersonal skills;
· Support the school Mission Statement and Vision;
· A motivated person who shows initiative, reliability, leadership, and a strong professional work ethic;
· Teaching experience with western pedagogy in accredited schools offering inquiry-based programmes will be considered a strong asset;
· Additional Desired Qualifications:
o Previous experience in an international school
o Previous experience in an IB Chinese .
