Role Summary/Purpose

The Software Airworthiness & Certification Engineer demonstrates leadership in avionics software development and certification of products for AVIAGE Systems. The Software Airworthiness and Certification Engineer will perform certification work within the area of specialty to ensure engineering compliance to applicable CAAC/FAA/EASA regulations and industry standard RTCA DO-178B. This position is in support of GE/AVIC Joint Venture C919 program. Location is in Shanghai, PRC.

Essential Responsibilities

The Software Airworthiness & Certification Engineer is responsible for providing guidance to ensure that: 1. Industry standard RTCA DO-178B and Internal AVIAGE Engineering Development procedures are followed 2. External standards (FAA, EASA, CAAC regulations) are met 3. Systems developed by AVIAGE Systems are the result of suitable, rigorous, and structured processes enacted throughout the product lifecycle These primary responsibilities are supported by and fulfilled through the following tasks and responsibilities: • Gain familiarity with system architecture including Development Assurance Levels and DO-178B software Levels • Provide guidance on DO-178B compliance to internal and external customers • Work with the Product groups to ensure that the avionics software planning, development and verification meets the objectives of RTCA DO-178B • Plan, coordinate and conduct DO-178B audits • Provide interpretation of DO-178B to the customer and program staff • Support Tool Qualification per DO-178B • Establish and maintain relationship with required external and internal interfaces to ensure compliance to DO-178B • Provide DO-178B training to internal/external customers • Interface with, and provide support to, regulatory authorities, customer representatives, and supplier representatives. • Serve as domain expert for RTCA DO-178B Engineering standard

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution • At least 6 years of experience in an aerospace systems development environment • At least 3 years of experience working directly with RTCA DO-178B including determining compliance to DO-178B objectives

Desired Characteristics

• Strong personal code of ethics and high levels of integrity • Strong working knowledge of RTCA DO-178B • DER or other professional certifications • Strong English and Mandarin oral and written communication skills • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills • PC proficiency • Extensive background in aerospace electronics / avionics engineering and development • An understanding of CAAC/ FAA / EASA aircraft and systems certification processes (TC, STC, PMA, TSO, etc.) • Experience working with Regulatory Agencies such as FAA, EASA, etc. • Understanding of aircraft Safety process
