Role Summary/Purpose

The Component Engineer is responsible for the selection and suitability for use of each component. Through collection and evaluation of data they will qualify each component and approve its manufacture based on quality, reliability, standardization and assurance of continued availability. Assignment of new part numbers and drawings are entered into our databases along with the creation of a part history file. Obsolescence support and lifecycle investigation is applied to minimize product impact.

Essential Responsibilities

• Ensure the quality and reliability of electronic components • Perform Component Engineering reviews parts selected by Design Engineering • Perform component selection, component qualification, and component obsolescence monitoring • Collect component data and uprating activities • Input data into the PTC PartsLink database, business and parametric information, tagging activities • Follow parts through test and verification and up to qualification and approval for use in application • Ensure the qualification data is accurate, complete and performance test data is reviewed • Prepare new records or drawings and release through Windchill (PDM) • Minimize obsolescence through manufacturers website research and lifecycle analysis • Serve as a technical resource to Procurement and Quality • Maintain good working relationships with component suppliers is essential • Be responsible for evaluation of alternate components availability • Utilize familiarity with design, test and analysis tools and systems

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering

Desired Characteristics

• Familiarity with IEC TS 62239. • Electrical Component experience with regard to performance and specifications in devices • Experience with numerous data bases, PTC PartsLink, PTC PDMLink, ECAD, MCAD, Oracle ERP, MTO, CMIS • Familiarity with outside services such as Part Miner and Total Parts Plus • Familiarity with databases to provide process improvement activities, minimizing duplicate entries to automating some of our processes • Proactive self-starter • Strong problem solving skills • Experience / knowledge of electronic hardware • Strong planning and task management • Strong communication skills • Strong interpersonal and Leadership skills • Personal Computer (PC) proficiency (Microsoft Office)
