Role Summary/Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer will perform mechanical engineering tasks. The primary design work will be the development of avionics test equipment used on manufacturing lines and in development labs. The Mechanical Engineer will team with electrical engineers to develop complex electrical-mechanical assemblies and systems. Engineering work entails extensive CAD modeling and design work to create design drawings and data. Support of test equipment fabrication and build is also a major area of activity

Essential Responsibilities

• Detailed mechanical design at the subassembly, assembly and system level. • CAD design work from component to system modeling. • Familiarity with basic electronic design theory. • Joint development with electrical engineering to ensure manufacturability and configuration control of designed equipment. • Creation of engineering documentation including requirements and user manuals. • Intuitive understanding of basic and moderately complex fabrication and assembly processes. • Documentation release and configuration management processes. • Test Equipment fabrication and assembly support. • Management of hardware build documents including BOMs and assembly instructions. • Strong teaming with project management, electrical engineering, systems engineering, assembly personnel, and customers. • Rigorous self-management regarding key project management metrics: cost, schedule and scope. • Detailed & summary status and issue reporting. • Performing development tasks compliantly to department process. • Design process improvement and development. • Mentoring of junior staff and peer engineering staff.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering• Strong practical approach to mechanical engineering and ability to efficiently perform tasks as demanded.• Outstanding communication and teaming skills as needed for multi-site development projects.

Desired Characteristics

• Experience with electronics and electrical packaging including wire harnesses and circuit card assemblies.• Test Equipment design experience• Experience with virtual teams, multi-site developments and working with sourced suppliers
