Job Description
The Caterpillar Aftertreatment and Cooling Products-China (ACP-China) team based in Wuxi is seeking design engineers to collaborate with suppliers to develop the following engine components:
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) coolers
Engine Oil coolers (EOC)
Air-to-water (ATW) charge air coolers
Water-to-water (WTW) heat exchangers
Thermostats
Water pumps
Qualifications
Required –
q MS in Mechanical Eng (or related science or engineering degree e.g. Vehicle Engineering, Aerospace Eng, Physics, etc.) or BS with 2+ years work experience
q Experience in product design using CAD/CAE design and analysis tools
q Strong thermal science (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer) background
q Fluent in English with clear verbal and written communication skills
q Strong technical and analytical skills
q Demonstrated motivation and teamwork
Desired –
q Demonstrated experience (2+ years) in engine cooler design and manufacturing
q Manufacturing or metallurgy expertise
q Knowledge of cooling and exhaust components, their manufacturing, and their test procedures
q Knowledge of diesel engine and machine cooling systems
q Project management skills
Responsibilities
q Work with suppliers to design engine-mounted cooling components including:
o Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) coolers
o Engine Oil coolers (EOC)
o Air-to-water (ATW) charge air coolers
o Water-to-water (WTW) heat exchangers
o Thermostats
o Water pumps
q Collect technical specifications and determine validation requirements
q Accountable for design activities including drawing quality, checking, releasing, etc.
q Execute best practice in design strategies for component life, serviceability, commonality, etc.
q Construct and maintain component DFMEA
q Conduct design reviews with supplier and engine group
q Coordinate and develop resources at suppliers to ensure the build and delivery of performance samples and prototypes to meet NPI schedule and quality standards
q Leverage manufacturing expertise and work with supplier to develop special product and process characteristics (SPPC), process flow chart, PFMEA, control plan, and PMI to ensure APQP conformance
q Understand requirements and drive new product and process development for improving supplier’s product portfolio, process capability, capacity, as well as cost reduction
q Work with purchasing in developing supplier base including cost management, quality control, support construction of should-cost models, etc.
