As a Logistics Supervisor at Caterpillar, you will have an opportunity to supervise the timely acquisition of castings, forgings and steel; develop efficient production schedules; audit production control systems and ensure the efficient use of manpower and assets in Materials Distribution.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

* Factory Scheduling - Supervising Cylinder Component factory scheduling including preparation of line-up sheets for material on the line, assuring adherence to schedule, expediting out bound material to customers, promise delivery dates etc.
* Purchase Requisitions and Schedules - Establishing quantities and time schedules for delivery of castings, forgings and unformed steel through the analysis of inventory records. Staff personnel analyze exceptions and verify needs through customer facilities and and negotiate delivery dates and quantities of material with suppliers.
* Purchase Follow-up - Daily contact is made by staff in follow-up by telephone and/or supplier visits to ensure delivery schedules will be met or to obtain delivery date promises where deviations in the schedule are necessary.
* Supplier Negotiation - Customer requirements are compared with manufacturing lot sizes to establish and negotiate unit loads with suppliers, enabling material distribution to pull material without counting and delivering directly to the manufacturing area. (impacts manufacturing capacity and reaction time)
* Inventory Records - Record keeping functions are performed to insure accuracy of stock records to meet production requirements, ensure economical order quantities and to reflect the status of either surplus or shortage of materials.
* Providing the necessary training and development of employees. Visiting supplier facilities to discuss delivery and order procedures and prepare reports on supplier performance.
* Storage And Distribution - Responsibilities include the storage and distribution of unformed steel and securing, storing and distribution of indirect material inventories.
* Manpower Utilization - Ensuring efficient use of manpower using prescribed work measurement guidelines including identifying opportunities for cost reduction in material processing methods.
* Asset Utilization - Responsible for efficient use of space for material storage and the maintenance and efficient utilization of equipment within area such as storage systems, power trucks, cranes, tool delivery cart and various types of mobile equipment.
Required Qualifications:

* Seasoned incumbent with previous experience in Materials Distribution with a good understanding of the functions of Inventory control, purchasing and follow-up.
* Should possess sufficient knowledge of the organization, understanding of supplier capabilities and
processes along with good communication and human relations skills.

* College/university degree in related field
