Job Responsiblities:

As a Purchasing Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) Leader, you’ll create synergy amongst a highly collaborative and complex team, driving collaboration between:

* Engineering personnel,
* Purchasing groups,
* Quality groups,
* Business unit Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD) team leaders,
* Process control engineers (PCE)
* Suppliers for purchased components

Your primary subject matter for collaboration among these resources will be on matters regarding CPPD, new product introduction (NPI), continuous product improvement (CPI), engineering changes, deviations, supplier designs, and specification approvals. You’ll coordinate these groups with an eye toward meeting NPI cost goals, while leveraging global factors and delivering local service excellence.

Managing a purchasing spend of generally less than $200M, you’ll complete the above activities and be accountable for robust, timely completion and status tracking and reporting for all APQP activities within your purview. You will also represent Global Purchasing in communicating CPPD directives to the constituents within your work team. Further, you’ll have the opportunity to act as a liason for the company, arranging meetings between suppliers and design engineers, and facilitating frequent collaboration between these parties to ensure manufacturability, quality, and cost, while planning for zero defects.

Required Qualifications:

This position requires:
* Five to seven years’ of work experience in a related position;
* An undergraduate degree or international equivalent from a college or university – or equivalent experience;
* A background in Engineering or project management;
* Familiarity with advanced product quality planning (APQP) processes used to manage components and assemblies through New Product Introduction (NPI) and re-sourcing cycles.

Desireable Qualifications:

The following criteria will be beneficial but not required:
* An undergraduate Engineering degree or international equivalent from a college or university;
* Experience with basic procurement and quality principles, procedures, and techniques; and
* Skill in use of various computer software programs.
* The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong interpersonal, analytical, leadership, and project management skills to develop close working relationships with others both inside and outside Caterpillar.
