Job Summary: Directs and coordinates activities concerned with the production of company products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Responsible for the direction and management of BEP's multi-shift manufacturing operation of supervisory and hourly personnel. Develops and evaluates manufacturing methods from custom designs to determine the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment to maximize productivity. Coordinates company maintenance and outsourcing. Responsible for the direction and management of materials management, production scheduling, and inventory control.
Job Specifications: Knowledge of industrial engineering and manufacturing processes/procedures at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or other closely related field. Knowledge and understanding of costing concepts. A four-year undergraduate degree is preferred. Must have over five years experience as a manufacturing manager, preferably a job shop environment. Experience in personnel management in a non-union environment as well as experience in lean manufacturing. Experience in developing manufacturing methods at a level normally acquired through three to five years of job related experience. Strong analytical skills necessary to develop and analyze manufacturing processes to maximize productivity. A working knowledge of local outsourcing opportunities. Knowledge of high tolerance and precision machining practices. Experience in and commitment to a continuous improvement environment. Experience in the total manufacturing cycle of special machines. Good communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal efficiently with company personnel at all levels and various external companies. Good computer skills.
Primary duties and responsibilities: (Others may be assigned)
· Has primary responsibility for the hiring, training and supervision of all shop and materials management personnel. Is also responsible to provide a complete job-related orientation to new hires (direct reports) within the first six months of hire.
· Represents manufacturing and materials management concerns/needs on Senior Management Team
· Works in partnership with subordinate supervisors to communicate, train, and ensure compliance to the standards in the employee handbook, company policies and procedures, company safety standards, and company quality standards
· Provides coaching and training to subordinate supervisors with respect to team building/team maintenance skills and issues. Has primary responsibility for the formal and informal performance evaluation of subordinate supervisors
· Develops yearly manufacturing capacity and budget requirements based on sales forecasts
· Analyzes and plans for work force utilization, space requirements, machine maintenance, and workflow. Designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
· Schedules and tracks production activities in accordance with the company production schedule, in keeping with effective operations and costs factors
· Advises production scheduler and project management of changes in priorities, which result from equipment failure, or operating problems
· Compiles, stores, retrieves and reports production data to scheduler
· Reviews and analyzes production, quality, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, as well as operating or production problems
· Confers with other management and engineering staff regarding manufacturing methods, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
· Coordinates the handling of outsourced materials with Purchasing and Project Management
· Works with product teams to develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality
· Confers with product teams concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods in order to improve production and quality of products
· Develops manufacturing methods for improving worker efficiency, and reducing waste of materials and utilities, such as reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment
· Evaluates the work content of all direct jobs using a variety of engineering techniques. Takes engineering designs and evaluates most efficient production processes
· Surveys and evaluates new and emergent technologies and production methods for cost improving and reduction
· Responsible for updating and for the accuracy of right-to-know information. Researches information needed to write mandatory reports concerning chemical inventory, air pollution report and waste-water management
· Reports and works on safety issues to maintain OSHA compliance
· Responsible for the Environmental Management System and compliance with ISO 14001
