Main objectives

To handle the vendor complaint process towards our suppliers to ensure that the quality goals for purchased material will be reached in the short term and the long term. The main target with the vendor claim process is to improve the quality level of incoming parts and there-by preventing future problems from occurring in Kongsberg Automotives production.

Areas of responsibility

·Together with the production engineer and the quality engineer who are in charge analyze faulty parts discovered in production.

·To handle vendor complaints when parts is out of specification and return them to our suppliers.

·To monitor sent vendor complaints and to enter information agreed with the supplier into the SAP system.

·Evaluate the corrective actions and close the claim if the nature of the actions is believed to solve the problem once and for all. (Poka-yoke solutions are preferred.)

·If necessary; follow up long-term actions (8D closure audit) at the local supplier.

·If necessary; write arrival inspection instructions and to implement these in the goods arrival department if problems occurs on serial parts in production.

·To ensure that parts in stock and security stock are inspected when faulty parts have been found in production.

·To forward all information regarding a quality problem to the responsible proactive Supplier Quality Development engineer (see KA approved supplier list) if the supplier continuously deliver faulty parts or if the supplier don't answer our claims. This to implement quality improvement plan level 2 or 3 at the supplier.

·Follow-up of the top 10 less performing suppliers on a monthly base and validate their improvement plan.

Main challenges

To secure the quality of the vendor claim reporting towards our suppliers. The quality of this claim report is important for the supplier's ability to really understand the problem.

To verify that the corrective actions are solving the problems in the long term.

Competence profile (ideal)

Education: Technical engineer, with education in quality assurance. Further training in measuring engineering, print interpretation, tolerances of form and position. Training in auditing is considered an additional qualification.

Practical experience: At least five years experience of the automotive manufacturing industry, preferably in production engineering or quality engineering.

Special requirements: To speak and write English. Further linguistic skills are considered an additional qualification.

Authority

·To approve arrival inspection instructions.

·To approve suppliers answers on vendor complaints (8D reports).

·The engineer has the right to stop faulty parts from suppliers before use in production.
