Primary Responsibilities and Tasks:
General:
Analyze and manage the performance of assigned suppliers. Communicates directly with purchasing, engineering, and manufacturing regarding supplier capabilities / limitations, improvement projects, and qualification efforts. Evaluates suppliers' manufacturing processes, recommends changes, and implements changes. Pariticipates in supplier audits and may lead audits. May be required to institute and promote cost reduction projects. Monitors the cost, schedule, and performance factors of major suppliers. Develops sources of supply for assigned commodities at the direction of the Mechanical Supplier Manager.
Specifics:
1. Must have core competency in the multiple aspects of the commodity (e.g. Machining, Sheet Metal, Precision Frame Weldments, Fixturing, Tooling, Secodary Metal Processing - Powdercoating, Zinc Plating, Anodization, Electropolishing, etc.) and progressive Quality Management Practices
2. Manages the day to day performance of assigned suppliers and initiates corrective action plans when necessary.
3. Guides suppliers using Best Known Methods (BKM) for fabrication resulting in reduced fabrication time, increased through-put, increased repeatability, reduced defect rate, and conformance to specification.
4. Escalates to Supplier Manager if supplier performance is trending in a direction that might cause change in supplier status
5. Manages frequent supplier meetings with cross functional team (weekly, etc.)
6. Interface with other Celestica Departments to support strategic plans in support of corporate and segment objectives.
7. Evaluates, recommends, and develops alternate sources to ensure the smooth flow of material to support production requirements.
8. Assume a participatory role in the Supplier Selection and Assessment process.
9. Identify and pursue cost reduction opportunities to support purchasing productivity objectives.
10. Maintain departmental metrics to monitor the effectiveness of assigned responsibilities.
11. Manages specific assignments within the assigned commodity area with responsibility for improving quality, cost, availability, Time to Volume, and service. Identifies opportunities for commodity complexity reduction and escalates/makes recommendations for improvement of operational efficiency.

Formal Education and Training:
1.Significant experience (7-10 years) in a mechanical trade - machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, etc. or equivilent combination of education and experience
2.Associates / Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline a plus
3.Six Sigma Certification a plus
4.C.P.M. and / or CPIM certifications a plus
Experience:
7+ years experience, including program/project management, preferably in support of a high technology manufacturing environment, with significant exposure to Purchasing contracts and supplier negotiations.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1.Proficient in MS/ Office applications
2.Strong technical aptitude in machining and sheet metal fabrication techniques and processes
3.Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
