Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



Participate in project planning, evaluate and develop new plating chemistries for surface finishes of electrical contacts and connector housings.



Arrange field trials of new plating baths in FCI plants or at outside vendors, including the qualification and implementation of global plating processes.



Act as technical resource and liaison between technicians, operating personnel, engineers, management, marketing, test lab and internal/external customers.



Actively participate in team settings to address plating issues, technical improvements, and quality resolution



Construct and present plating technical presentations and summaries to management and other team members when required



Provide plating technical training and guidance to site plating personnel



Disseminate technical and practical plating solutions to all FCI regions.



Design, evaluate and plan R& D experiments for practical plating applications in electrical contacts



Explore, identify, evaluate and optimize new plating chemistries and processes to improve cost, quality, and efficiency



Conduct various types of plating, e.g., reel-to-reel, barrel, rack, selective contact plating, etc.



Provide consultation, trouble shoot, failure analysis and technical recommendations globally



Maintain project scheduling through the use of MS Project.



Interface with tooling suppliers to provide the necessary tool design, cost and build schedule.




Skills and qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Electro-Chemistry; also, three to six years experience with reel to reel electroplating



Language Skills

Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in written English and Mandarin to talk and work daily with global staff.

The cross functional relationships that are necessary to perform this job effectively are to interface with technicians, operating personnel, engineers from all three regions, management, marketing, sales, test laboratory and customers.



Ability to work in multi-cultural settings, as well as travel to other FCI sites outside of China.



Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logic and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to work with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.



Computer Skills

Demonstrated knowledge of Project Management software; EXCEL Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Office WORD Processing software, and Microsoft POWERPOINT software.



Other Qualifications

Demonstrated familiarity with FMEA, LEAN, PMP, SPC, and problem solving techniques.



Decision Making/Accountability

This position is expected to operate with limited direct supervision in order to meet the established objectives.


This position is expected to provide expert plating technical advise and recommendations to management concerning the identification of best plating practices for FCI applications, provide best technical surface finish solutions and service to internal customers, to trouble shoot, improve processes, provide cost reduction opportunities, and conduct projects which support these initiatives.




Communications

This position is expected to be able to communicate effectively to with technicians, operating personnel, engineers from all three regions, management, marketing, sales, test laboratory and customers about new plating types, plating processes, plating improvements and also failure analysis.
