Overall Purpose of Job

l Commodity Buyer is part of the Purchasing Department. The Prime role of the Commodity Buyer is developing and implementing the most beneficial type of sourcing agreements for the specific commodities required by TRW Automotive, and to assist in the development of a network of best practice suppliers for the range of sourcing agreements

Major Responsibilities

· Actively search for new local suppliers to support increasing localization requirements

· Responsibility for strategic sourcing of assigned commodity parts;

· Management of supply base to include renewal of agreements and assisting suppliers in problem solving and tracking corrective actions;

· Conducting supplier assessments for potential new suppliers, develop and supervise global bidders list;

· Gathering and analysis of supplier data to prepare analysis and recommendation for supplier selection, with focus on sourcing in low-cost countries;

· Work with suppliers to develop continuous improvement plans and metrics to monitor performance;

· Develops and execution of sourcing strategies and prepares monthly reports to track and show sourcing strategy and progress, including achievement of spend reduction targets;

· Interface with internal customers on critical supplier issues as necessary;

Participation, as needed, on TRW Teams and effectively interact with other Purchasing employees, TRW departments and/or manufacturing plant personnel;

Key Competencies

· The Commodity Buyer is expected to have experience within direct purchasing, including experience negotiating with suppliers and managing the supply base post-negotiations

· Leadership and, good interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Ability to plan, analyze data and clearly communicate recommendations/results

· A solid understanding of the nature of supply market structures.

· Ability to independently troubleshoot issues/concerns and determine course of action.

· Knowledge of commercial and contract law.

· Knowledge of quality concepts and processes such as ISO 9000 and TS16949.

· Mobile and willing to travel frequently.

Education & Work Experience

Indicate the minimum level of education and work experience necessary to perform this position’s responsibilities. Include the required certifications, licenses, etc. Also, include preferred as well as necessary conditions.

Note: Desired education and work experience should be based solely on job responsibilities; they should not necessarily mirror the background of the position’s incumbent.

Education: Degree preferably in Engineering/Technology or Business Commercial subjects or to have acquired, or be in the process of acquiring purchasing qualifications. A further postgraduate qualification in business studies would be an added advantage.

Language: Verbal and written fluency in English and one other language (preferably other than native language)

Experience: Typically 3 years in a purchasing role. Working in and preferable leading multi-functional project teams. Familiarity with industrial processes and an automotive background are preferred,

Wuhan plant will locate in Wuhan Economic and Technology Development Zone (Zhuankou District), main products include: rear caliper, front caliper, booster and master cylinder. First assembly line in Wuhan plant will launch in May, 2012, revenue target for 2015 will be 155 million USD.
