This position is part of Novanta's Cambridge Technology business unit. Cambridge Technology designs, develops, and manufactures leading-edge laser beam steering solutions including galvanometer and polygon optical scanning components, 2-axis and 3-axis scan heads, scanning subsystems, high power scanning heads, and controlling hardware and software. Our company partners with OEM customers to deliver scanning solutions that support advanced industrial processes, electronics, and laser-based medical applications.

As the inventor of galvanometer-based optical scanning technology, it is our mission to drive innovations in photonics by delivering unprecedented technical capabilities through the critical lens of collaboration, quality, and customer service.

You will be a member of a highly skilled customer-focused Engineering, Sales, and Support Team designed to achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction and performance. It will be your responsibility to deliver technical service and installation support for our China customers and to support our headquarters with market feedback for future product developments. In this role you will also act as a focal point for technical questions for our China Sales Managers.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical service and integration support to customers for our full product range at customer sites as well as out of our China Headquarter
• Work closely with the customer, the sales managers and the global applications engineering team to understand technical process requirements while ensuring excellent presales support.
• Be the voice of our customers when providing feedback to engineering and product management about application integration opportunities and challenges as well as during our aim for continuous improvement of our product portfolio.
• Develop training material and conduct sales and customer training courses for our hardware and software solutions
• Develop a deep technical knowledge and skill set related to our product portfolio as well as for key focus applications.
• Create, update and present documentation about system integration, on-site installation and service support for our software and hardware components.

General tasks

• Strict compliance with the quality, occupational safety and environmental regulations.
• Implementation of the instructions of the quality / environmental management representative and the occupational safety specialist.

Experience

• Bachelor degree or outstanding technical background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics or comparable
• Strong multidisciplinary problem solving skills including software, mechanical, electrical and system engineering are mandatory
• We expect good experience in supporting customers with knowledge of commonly-used customer sales concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Sound experience in physical fundamentals of optics and enthusiasm for laser applications are a key benefit. Ideally including experience in the use of 3-axis scanning heads
• Fast learner able to come up to speed rapidly on various customer systems in the aerospace, military, medical device and industrial field. A successful track record of software and/or hardware integration is a must.
• Willingness to travel to carry out customer on-site installation support / service support or with sales managers for pre-sales discussions (approx. 35%)
• Very good English and Mandarin language skills are required for communication within the China Team, the US based Headquarters as well as to customers in China.
