Primary Responsibilities
As a Merchandiser you act as a contact/communication link between the supplier and the Sourcing Manager. Your work is to facilitate the buying process. The communication between supplier-Merchandiser-Sourcing Manager is mostly by fax and e-mail. Only urgent cases are discussed over the phone. During the whole order process you have to keep the Sourcing Manager updated. The Sourcing Manager wants all the information he/she can get. Your cooperation with the Sourcing Manager will be strengthened if you share as much information as possible with her/him.

Specific responsibilities
The Merchandiser is responsible to assist the Sourcing Manager in the following areas:
To find new, suitable suppliers
To evaluate and develop suitable suppliers
To avoid agents and middle men
To find ways to get lower purchasing prices
To monitor and analyse market prices
To follow market trends, development, etc
To find new products
To arrange travelling schedules and bookings
To assist the Sourcing Manager during visits to suppliers
To translate and explain
To follow up on actions from meetings between supplier and Sourcing Manager
To arrange and monitor samples
To communicate with suppliers
To support in placing the orders
To keep an updated record of order flows
To conduct and report pre-shipment inspections
To monitor CSR
To monitor production and deliveries
To assist with and handle claims
Through payment department ensure proper document presentations
To support in measuring supplier KPIs, for example the precision of deliveries, quality parameters,etc
To follow-up with suppliers and work towards improving supplier KPIs
To follow up corrective action plans

This list could be longer, but generally speaking the Merchandiser and the Shanghai Office is striving to improve business on behalf of the Sourcing Manager in any way possible. The presence of the Shanghai Office in the Asian markets and the benefit of having local staff with local background and knowledge strengthen OneMed's position in the medical disposables sector.

Activities which should NOT be carried out by the Merchandiser include (but are not limited to):
Negotiating prices and conditions
Delay or stop a delivery without approval of Sourcing Manager

Profile
College degree in Engineering
3-4 years experience
Any specialize trade skill eg Welding Cert, NDT cert, API Cert, Nace Cert or relevant to the industry

Able to coordinate and motivate a team towards a common goal

Technical knowledge and experience in related field
Able to work independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously
Able to interact with all levels of management and clients
