POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports implementation of the Tenneco Manufacturing System (TMS) strategy using lean tools to eliminate waste and create value. Drives operational perfection for all processes throughout the value stream. Coordinates and leads continuous improvement processes and activities. Catalyst for advancing a culture of continuous improvement throughout the workforce, and is a culture change agent with the plant staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Development, implementation, and direction of the plant Lean Strategy in alignment with TMS.
2. Coordinates, directs and drives Lean and continuous improvement activities with internal suppliers, value streams and customers.
3. Develops, publishes and updates a 12 month planning calendar of Lean Events. Update regularly as changes occur.
4. Works with internal value stream leaders to define current and future state value stream maps and prioritized implementation plans.
5. Responsible for scheduling and leading Lean events; Ensure availability of cross-functional resources; and provides Lean principle training for team members and supports team leaders.
6. Coordinates and facilitates implementation of approved process changes resulting from continuous improvement, engineering changes, or other projects Assures personnel are assigned to specific phases or aspects of projects and follows up to make sure tasks are completed quickly and effectively.
7. Captures, records, verifies with plant controller and reports Lean event/activity savings to Plant Staff and Corporate personnel as required.
8. Evaluates processes within the facility to determine areas for improvement (i.e., performance of time study analysis, standard work combination charts, ergonomic reviews); makes recommendations; and develops and implements plans.
9. Ensures compliance with EH&S, BOS, Quality and TMS guidelines in relation to lean events.
10. Supports plans and activities concerned with technical machine development, pre-award activity and product launches.
11. Controls expenditures within limitations of project / departmental budgets.
12. Prepares project reports and updates. Posts results on the TVM and Lean or current databases.
13. Participates in processes and product reviews (including all new launch activities) to ensure compliance with defined best practice lean approaches, cost, engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
14. Train plant staff and managers in Lean concepts and schedule regular Lean Updates (Steering Committee, project updates, scheduled events, resources required).
15. Perform a minimum of two Process Excellence Assessments per year with all Plant Staff and track progress through BOS metrics process. Advise site leaders as to the necessary plans or tools to improve P.E. Assessment score.
16. Maintains current, relevant information board(s) for the facility with the board's locations to be conveniently accessible to the entire workforce. The board should include, all items required by Tenneco Global Standard.
17. Employee must perform his/her job within acceptable safety, environmental, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, handbooks and applicable work instructions.
18. Facilitate, support, coach and apply the 4C philosophy in all job duties (effective lean process design, rapid problem solving, sharing of best practices across plant, SBU, and across SBU's, and teaching and developing the skills in this process to others)
19. Utilizing Tenneco Standard Cell Analysis Pack to conduct reviews of facility work cells minimum annually, or as required by current business drivers.
20. Support Plant Manager in scheduling and driving TMS - Leadership Journal Reviews. These meetings will be conducted bi-weekly by Plant Manager, but local Lean Leader must be able to mentor team members in the Tenneco scientific method of problem solving.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides assistance to Greenbelt projects in the area of Lean
2. Their workplace should set an example for Lean (including 5S) for the entire plant.
3. Assists Plant Manager in developing a culture that embraces change, has a bias for action and strives to continuously learn and inspire.
4. Complete Six Sigma Green Belt certification within 1 year.
5. Travel within and between SBU's to support global TMS requirements.
6. Participate in global TMS calls and support the development of the TMS.
CRITICAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent and three to five years experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent experience.
2. Working knowledge and experience in use of Lean principles and tools preferred.
3. Working knowledge and experience in use of Six Sigma principles and tools preferred
4. Excellent communication skills, oral and written (English).
5. Disciplined in the application of problem solving tools.
6. Proficient in computer usage of standard office software
7. Ability to effectively train in a hands-on environment.
8. Self-driven to complete projects quickly and cost-effectively.
9. High potential for advancement in the organization preferred.
