Sr. Development Engineer Slide Gate Refractories/Purge Plugs
1.Reports to:
Development Manager North Asia
2. Direct Reports:
Will have a share of 4 technicians reporting to this position
3. Key Result Areas:
? Maintains the H&S standards required in the laboratory – SIOs/safety audits
? Cooperates with account managers or product managers to collect background information regarding field failure incidents and analyses samples to determine the root cause post mortem.
? Applies application and process knowledge to correct refractory manufacturing or assembly problems, analyses samples and works with the technical manager or process engineers to implement corrective actions
? Modifies refractory product formulations or processing to adjust product performance or cost for specific applications or markets
? Evaluates the suitability of new raw materials in refractory products to qualify new sources or suppliers.
4. Qualifications:
Masters degree in materials/ceramics/metallurgy as a minimum. Masters degree in other fields of science or engineering can be considered, but previous work experience in materials/ceramics/metallurgy is required.
5. Experience:
Industrial experience of 5-10 years is required in a related field (materials, ceramics, metallurgy).
6. Knowledge:
The candidate must have excellent English and Chinese in both written and oral forms. The candidate must have wide ranging laboratory experience operating a variety of laboratory equipment types. Knowledge of materials science principles is a must.
Knowledge of process metallurgy and steel making refractories is also a must. Knowledge of Slide Gate refractories and Purging Systems applications, products and technology is a plus. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis for thermomechanical simulation via a software such as ABAQUS or ANSYS is very desirable.
7. Skills & Behaviour:
The candidate must be a self-starter and motivated to succeed on their own, but must also be able to perform as a member of a team.
The candidate must have good attention to details and be able to handle multiple assignments at the same time.
Project planning and ability to keep to agreed schedules generating the required results are essential.
8. Problem Solving & Complexity:
The position will require the job holder to determine the root cause of failure when limited or incomplete information is available. Problem solving will require a very diverse skill set including strong understanding of Vesuvius manufacturing process, steelmaking, thermodynamics, fracture mechanics and typical customer practices.
