Essential Responsibilities

The senior legal counsel for Asia will provide legal, regulatory and compliance leadership across the GE Lighting Business in Asia. The key responsibilities of this role will include supporting business growth and commercial execution, anticipating and managing regulatory and compliance risks, building and implementing preventive processes and leading the legal and compliance teams in the region. The role will report directly to Senior Executive-General Counsel, GE Lighting with a dotted line to Asia Lighting General Manager:
Essential Function (Responsibilities):
The legal counsel will act as a key business partner by applying combined business and legal judgment to proposed deals, relationships and other issues requiring legal or compliances attention, in particular:
-Partner with local business leaders to provide legal support for business growth
-Hands-on responsibility for overseeing and coordinating ongoing commercial projects/transactions
-Provide local experience and legal support to the sourcing and technology teams
-Review and monitor regulatory changes and advise the business on the full range legal issues affecting the business
-Manage the referral of matters to in-house legal specialists and occasionally outside counsel
-Proactively implement due diligence and legal productivity, simplicity and standardization
-Provide direction and strategy for the business’ compliance program through risk assessment, communication and training
-Support business development activities
-Investigate, negotiate and resolve disputes (commercial and labor)
- Work with corporate government relations team to support sales, shape policy and ensure compliance with rules

Qualifications/Requirements

-Juris Doctorate or graduate degree in law
-At least 8-10 years business low transactions and business regulation experience at a large law firm or corporate legal department
-Provide team leadership experience and ability to function as a senior member of a management team
-Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to deal effectively with people and to work in teams
- Strong oral and written Mandarin/English communication skill
-Creative, self-starter, strong initiative
-Solid work ethics and commitment to job completion
-Strong analytical, process management and implementation skills and able to work effectively in a matrix management environment
-Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively and ability to make on the spot risk calls
