The Communication and Action Unit
The Communication and Action Unit are responsible for supporting the campaigns through the tactics of various communication and non-violent direct actions. It’s in charge of the develop and maintenance of communication channels including website, social media and so on, it’s also liaison with media from time to time. It takes the responsibility to communicate and engage with supporters and volunteers. With the expertise in communication, the staff in communication and action unit as the important member of project team, has to create the communication plan and implement it, with the objective of achieving campaign goal.

Overall purpose of the job
The Public Networking Officer is responsible for broadening Greenpeace non-financial supporters in mainland China and engaging them in online activities that help to achieve Greenpeace environmental mission.
Scope
The post holder is line managed by the Head of Communications & Action Unit and assumes responsibility in the development and execution of strategy to build and engage non-financial supporters in mainland China through online channels. The post holder may be assigned by the Line Manager to work in projects under the leadership of the Project Leaders.
The post holder will usually work in a team composed of campaign and communications staff. Effective work requires integrated approach and knowledge. The post holder may be assigned to work in projects which involve other Greenpeace offices.
Discretion is exercised in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Major functions / responsibilities
Conceptual tasks, Strategy development and/or Project management
- Develop and execute strategy to engage non-financial supporters.
- Lead research to understand the profile and values of Greenpeace non-financial supporters in mainland China.
- Segment non-financial supporters to apply tailor made engagement strategy and tactics.
- Keep abreast of latest development in digital and social media, including how other NGOs, commercial entities and individuals engage their supporter and customer base, to ensure Greenpeace's engagement strategy is in line with external trends. Apply new tools and introduce new knowledge to work.
- Observe external debates and trends. Identify opportunities to engage non-financial supporters.
Implementation
- Regular communication and interaction with non-financial supporters. Carry out online or offline activities to increase supporter engagement.
- Prepare textual and visual content. Run tests to optimize content, style and activities.
- Measure the performance of supporter relation on regular basis.
- Identify and reach out to key opinion leaders in online space.
Support/ Coaching/ Leadership
- Advise campaign projects on their supporter and public engagement strategy.
- Coordinate communications, campaign and action staff to align with the supporter engagement strategy.
- Train and guide campaign and communications staff to carry out effective supporter engagement strategy.
Compliance/ Keeping Framework Conditions
- Work closely with others, including peers in other Greenpeace offices, to ensure coherence of public messaging, alignment with Greenpeace global identity and values, and adherence to Greenpeace global communications protocols and standards.
- Budget control when carrying out online and offline activities or other upporter-related work plans.
