Report to: Ying Hub Director
Location: Ying, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading change and annual results
1) A key focus area will be the operations of the effluent treatment system. The hub manager has overall operational responsibility for effluent management and will need to provide support to Environment Supervisors to ensure that:
. The effluent treatment system is safe to operate, reliable, stable and efficient;
. The system is meeting all key performance criteria for each of the key process steps and the overall system is treating effluent to the required standards;
. Effective troubleshooting is being carried out;
. Relevant and updated SOPs are available for system management;
. Regular maintenance of the system is being carried out;
. Implementation of continuous improvement initiatives are being carried out.
2) Management of all environmental aspects of the hub Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) license:
. Focus is to ensure all farms are compliant with EIA at all times;
. Proactively manage relationship with local government particularly EPA.
3) Provide leadership into hub operations in relation to sustainable dairying practices such as:
. Effluent treatment and management;
. Ensuring compliance with all appropriate local legislation;
. Water management;
. Energy efficiency;
. Odour management.
. And assist with on farm implementation of these.
4) Development and management of programmes to address issues / gaps identified and opportunities in sustainable on-farm dairying practices particularly in areas outlined above
5) Budget setting and management of effluent system operations;
6) Identify and assist with delivery of solutions to on-farm production and milk collection sustainability issues.
7) Actively monitor legislation and compliance to ensure that any changes are understood and that plans are in place to adapt on farm practices to meet any changes
- Reporting & Continuous Improvement
. Complete all routine reporting requirements, including monthly project progress reports and promptly report and take appropriate action on issues and anomalies as they occur.
. Lead a culture of continuous improvement in the environmental team.
. Ensure any reporting requirements to local authorities are proactively managed
- People and Capability Build
. Manage a high performing environmental operations team and ensure timely resolution of any conflicts and issues;
. Ensure that the Environment Supervisors maintain active and effective personal development plans to build and grow competency and capability;
. Effectively manage performance and engage team members.
-Liaison
1) Stakeholder management of:
. Alignment with other farming operations including maintenance, milking;
. Local government authorities particularly in relation to EIA;
. External environmental and sustainable dairying groups to ensure most current best practices are adopted as well as promotion of initiatives.
2) Provide education and training on sustainable dairying solutions and best practices on farm.
3) Identify and build relationships with key Chinese (or Chinese branch) organizations and local communities to assist China Farms in meeting their needs and to improve their sustainable dairying and on farm management practices.
- Leadership
. Participate as an effective team member within the Hub Operations Lead team;
. Provide sustainable dairying leadership to Hub operations;
. Grow and develop a high performing environmental team (both direct reports and indirect reports).
. Effectively manage performance and engage team members.
. Role model the values and set expectations with peers and team members in terms of living the values in “how” they perform their roles.
- Health and Safety
. Ensures that Health and Safety policies and procedures are embedded in the execution of all and any work.
. Work with the China Farms team to shift the culture from a compliance mindset to a team committed to world class safety practices and behaviours.
. Provides visible and effective leadership on all aspects of health and safety in all China Farms sites to ensure safety and well-being of all employees, contractors and visitors.
REQUIREMENT
. University qualification in Engineering, Science or Environmental.
. Having minimum 5 years of experience in technical leadership role and having an experience in a similar role in China is preferred.
. Technical/Functional Expertise.
. Management and business acumen.
. Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and leadership skills.
. Programme/project management.
. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
. Good reporting and writing skills.
. Good knowledge of water treatment systems and management, and experience on maintaining operation parameters and handling problems.
. Negotiation/ communication skills and thorough knowledge and understanding of the dairy industry and on-farm systems and practices are preferred.
. Familiar with waste water treatment equipment, instrumentation and automation control. Familiarity with common equipment such as pumps, valves, solid separation systems and chemical dosing equipment within paper / food / fermentation industry.
. Technical knowledge on nutrient / effluent management, soil conservation, water quality, and sustainability practices
. Self-motivated, enthusiastic and reliable.
. Bilingual (Mandarin and English) is preferred.
. Policy management experience.
. Operation lead role in (waste) water treatment process within paper / food / fermentation industry.
