Role Summary/Purpose

The Safety Engineer is responsible for establishing safety processes, developing safety program plans, leading the safety program execution and mentoring junior safety engineers. This role is responsible for balancing both internal and external customer requirements for the design, analysis, validation and verification of avionics products using accepted aviation industry safety assessment methods.

Essential Responsibilities

The Safety Engineer has responsibility for all aspects of leading projects including writing proposals, defining architectures, analyzing requirements, modeling, writing specifications, managing suppliers, leading teams, managing cost and schedule, subsystem and aircraft integration, validation, verification and demonstration. The Safety Engineer will interface with customers, partner companies and vendors to deliver a system solution. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives, plus have the ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals. Responsibilities include: • Generate safety requirements and allocate to the system, subsystem and unit levels. • Perform safety analyses and assessments at the system, subsystem and unit levels. • Perform civil system safety assessment, fault tree analysis, common mode analysis, functional failure path analysis, safety requirements development, developing safety program plans, functional hazard analysis and failure modes effects and criticality analysis. • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. • Develop safety engineering procedures and practices that support the development and continuous improvement of highly engineered products and services. • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project. • Support the Bid and Proposal process by developing safety programs specifically designed in response to internal and external customer requirements. • Coordinate with subcontractors to define safety programs and oversee their efforts. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams. • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures. • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments. • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues. • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews. • Develop and maintain internal processes and standards. • Integrate processes across functional areas to improve coordination and maximize efficiency. • Scope, guide and execute to functional, business and broad company objectives. • Mentor and develop junior safety engineers.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science. • At least 8 years of experience in related engineering positions.

• Willingness to relocate to China. • Ability to speak Chinese (Mandarin). • Demonstrated track record of leading technical teams. • Demonstrated ability to perform safety analyses. • Demonstrated ability to develop and allocate safety requirements. • Familiarity with reliability engineering practices and associated industry standards, policies and procedures. • Familiarity with maintainability and testability engineering practices and associated industry standards, policies and procedures. • Extensive experience in safety analysis, statistical analysis, and modeling. • At least 5 years of experience working with the design and analysis of complex electronic products. • Understanding of circuit design and analysis. • Familiarity with software design and verification. • Familiarity with complex logic design and verification. • Strong technical aptitude, including engineering tools and systems. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. • Six Sigma Green Belt certification. • Ability to guide and influence others. • Understanding of the principles of the entire engineering development process, the associated documentation flow and associated tools. • Understanding and use of Relex, Reliasoft or related, accepted industry standard safety analysis software tools. • Understanding and use of Microsoft Office applications. • FAA, EASA, or CAAC background / knowledge / experience. • Familiarity with ATA Specifications. • Familiarity with ARP4761, ARP4754, DO-178B, DO-254, DO-297.
