Responsibilities:
Specific project accountabilities will be:
• Plan,execute,review and deliver the assigned projects. Pro-actively manage deliverables and budgets,and take appropriate corrective action to ensure delivery.
• Manage third party technology partner relationships (eg with selected lubricant additive suppliers) as part of product development projects.
• Effectively liaise with and where appropriate participate on relevant business teams (eg key account core teams),contributing to the development of new customer value propositions and supporting delivery of new business.
• Ensure appropriate documentation and reporting through the project life-cycle. This includes contributing to definition and review of working documents,contributing to Product Development Briefs and reporting project progress through monthly updates,team meetings and formal R&D reports as appropriate and as agreed (with the MCO Technology Manager).
• Maintain understanding of own and competitor product performance and technology,and ensure that this knowledge is used to shape future product developments and strategies.
OEM and industry activities will require the ability to:
• Identify the implications of the technical activity (own/competitor(s)/trends)
• Maintain awareness of technical trends and issues affecting own products
• Influence and lobby where required in support of business initiatives
• Quickly build working relationships
• Prepare and deliver presentations professionally to internal and external stakeholders
To achieve the above the project leader will develop relationships with product marketing,supply chain and key account managers at an appropriate level,developing an understanding of internal and external business requirements and constraints. As part of a global business,these relationships will by definition be international.
Requirements:
Position description – Special Challenges
• Interfacing with marketing and product management to enable efficient implementation of new products, support speedy resolution of supply chain issues and provide effective support to target OEM business development opportunities as and when they arise.
• Development of MCO formulation expertise, working with existing members of the automotive lubricants team to build a level of understanding that enables a strong shaping dialogue with external technology partners.
• Development of lubricant manufacturing expertise by working with existing team members and experts from supply chain in order to understand the specific requirements and to enable a smooth scale up.
• Coordination between various groups (including laboratory, engine and vehicle testing, product marketing and product management).
• Focus will increase on the specific requirements for the key growth markets in the BRIC countries and their specific customers and challenges. Pro-active and supportive engagement with the relevant OUs,customers and other relevant functions will be key to success here
Experience and Qualifications required
• Research science or engineering background - Ph.D. degree is highly desirable
• A genuine interest in and experience with motorcycle or automotive technology is preferable.
• Proven team working, inter-personal & networking skills, preferably in a virtual environment
• Knowledge of key building blocks of automotive lubricant formulations (at least 3 years)
• Working knowledge of lubricant additives and base oils
• Track record of working with marketing and/or sales desirable
• Proven record of delivery, with evidence of drive and creativity coupled with a structured and disciplined approach to project management
• Excellent report writing skills desirable
