Development Designer
Job Title: Development Designer
Reports to: Development Engineering Manager
Job Level: Engineer

SUMMARY OF ROLE
We are seeking a Development Designer to provide design proposals for utility-scale solar projects. The Development Designer reports to the Development Engineering Manager and will coordinate with internal and external resources as needed to generate the design, obtain necessary site information through site visits if necessary, and communicate site information that may impact design to the rest of the development team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

– Gain familiarity with our company and the JV’s products and standards
– Responsible for a portfolio of design proposals
– Works on multiple design proposals simultaneously; manages competing priorities and overcomes obstacles to successfully meet major milestones
– Attends development meetings, develops reports on status of design deliverables
– Uses understanding of construction logistics, material and labor costs to optimize designs
– Manages external resources to obtain necessary calculations and drawings to support design development activities
– Coordinates with internal engineering resources to obtain necessary calculations and drawings to support design development activities
– Develops designs of solar arrays and necessary equipment to address site-specific requirements
– Responsible for creating and maintaining design proposals
– Adopts necessary document control measures to manage internal and external design documentation
– Creates Bills of Materials for estimating purposes
– Holds design review meetings with internal and external parties as needed to maintain proper QC/QA on their projects
– Tracks opportunity information in the company database
– Identifies missing information and performs site audits as needed to gather remaining site information
– Occasional domestic travel for site visits and international travel for training at our company’s headquarters in California, USA.

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job.

- A Bachelors degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering OR a Masters degree in Architecture
- 3+ years project engineering experience in the design/build, EPC or utility electricity generation field producing technical CAD documents
- Demonstrated civil or mechanical design skills, ability to generate accurate, highly-detailed construction drawings
- Strong AutoCAD skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Fully-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as outside customers and vendors
- Proven ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus
- Excellent organizational skills to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines
- Extremely strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven ability to delegate and prioritize work of drafters, technicians, and interns
- Fluent familiarity with construction codes
- Proven ability to successfully procure, monitor, and assess subcontracted consultants
- Able to communicate fluently in conversational and written English and Mandarin Chinese
Preferred requirements
- Extensive construction experience in the solar PV industry
- Strong familiarity with construction costs, schedules, and project accounting
- Expertise in permitting projects in Inner Mongolia and other regions in China

OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION
- This position is based out of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, PRC
- Occasional travel (visiting project sites, etc.)
