Development Engineer V
SUMMARY OF ROLE
We are seeking a Sr. Development Engineer to oversee design proposals for utility-scale solar projects. The Development Engineer reports to the Manager of Development Engineering and will be responsible for managing a portfolio of opportunities needing development design support. The Development Engineer will support coordination with internal and external resources as needed to generate the design, obtain necessary site information through site visits if necessary, and communicate site information that may impact design to the rest of the development team. The Development Engineer is responsible for understanding design considerations of our products, both existing products as well as those in development. The Development Engineer supports all phases of the sales process, from initial site evaluation through support of contract execution and site permitting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
– Oversees the preparation of schematic mechanical, electrical, civil and/or structural designs for solar arrays
– Accountable for on-time delivery set of design documents that meets all contractual requirements on multiple proposal designs simultaneously
– Manages competing priorities and overcomes obstacles to successfully meet submittal dates
– Leads and supervises the assembled development design team in preparation of design deliverables, including detailed development drawings and gathering necessary site information
– Assesses and anticipates deliverables needs, reviews and edits proposed engineering budget and schedule, and communicates resource needs to senior management
– Represents our company in development team meetings covering engineering and technical issues, including meetings with the public and regulatory authorities, owners, and contractors
– Primary interface with Sales and Sr. Project Manager on matters relating to detailed engineering progress, quality, scope and schedule
– Maintains responsible control over all design activities pertaining to the proposal, including engineering, quality control, and code compliance
– Uses understanding of construction logistics, site preparation, material and labor costs to ensure design optimized and value engineered to the greatest extent possible
– Supports Sales and Sr. Project Manager in updating and maintaining project schedule and budgets for portfolio of proposals
– Is subject matter expert and used as a resource for cross-discipline our company’s employees
– Leads in defining a project’s functional and spatial requirements. Estimates costs and develops schedules for the design of solar arrays
– Schedules and leads Design Review meetings
– Creates Scopes of Work for engineering consultants and modifies and updates the boilerplate scopes as needed
– Effectively directs and utilizes administrative resources as needed
– Stamps construction documents as needed including drawings, specifications and calculations
– Reviews and collaborates with Sales and Project Management team on contract development
– Mentors more junior engineers

– Provide leadership as a group or team leader as necessary
RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job. Candidates not meeting these requirements will not be hired for this position.
- A Bachelors degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering OR a Masters degree in Architecture
- Minimum of 10+ years project engineering experience in the design/build, EPC or utility electricity generation field
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering
- Excellent, demonstrated civil, electrical, or mechanical design skills
- Thorough and demonstrated understanding of electrical design, materials and methods of installation, especially in power generation
- Strong understanding of AutoCAD and ability to generate schematic drawings
- Strong analytical skills
- Fully-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as outside customers and vendors
- Proven ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus
- Excellent organizational skills to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines
- Extremely strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven ability to delegate and prioritize work of drafters, technicians, and interns
- Fluent familiarity with construction and electrical codes
- Proven ability to successfully procure, monitor, and assess subcontracted consultants
- Ongoing professional development is expected
- Fluent in English and Mandarin/ Cantonese
- Experience working in a Global environment
Preferred requirements
- Extensive construction experience in the solar PV industry
- Strong familiarity with construction costs, schedules, and WBS project accounting
- Diverse regional expertise in permitting and interconnection requirements for small and large scale PV projects
OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION
- This position is based out of Hohhot, China
- Travel (visiting project sites, etc.)
- Limited relocation assistance will be provided to the selected candidate
