职位描述

general Responsibilities
Each primary class has two teachers – a western teacher and a Chinese teacher. The two colleagues plan and deliver most lessons together (see below).
Overall teaching framework.
1. Teaching a primary years homeroom class.
The curriculum is based on the English national curriculum objectives and the timetable follows a similar pattern to that in UK primary classrooms with numeracy and literacy occupying a central position in the curriculum day. Homeroom teachers are expected to teach the full curriculum which includes numeracy, literacy, Chinese (by Chinese partner teacher only), science, Design and Technology, IT and humanities topics. Some subjects such as PE, and Music and Art in the older primary years, will be taught by specialist teachers .
Curriculum leadership in English, Maths and Science are provided through the relevant secondary heads of subject department, with remits as defined by the Head of Primary.
Resources, including textbooks, are made specifically for the teaching of the English curriculum including end of unit assessments and formative assessment in the core subjects.
2. Team teaching
OIC’s unique bilingual immersion programme requires that the western teacher and the Chinese teacher work together to deliver a large percentage of the lessons. This is especially important for ‘projects’, Design & Technology and science, which are delivered bilingually. Teachers receive dedicated co-planning time within the curriculum day.
3. The role of the Chinese Homeroom Teacher
The Primary Teacher plays a principal role in:
Mathematics
Primary students follow the Chinese maths curriculum, delivered by the Chinese Homeroom Teacher in a bilingual framework, with the western teacher in support.
Chinese as an Additional Language (CAL)
Most primary students do not speak Chinese and will therefore require ‘starter’ Chinese. This is delivered by the Chinese Homeroom teacher.
4. Communication with Parents
Written mini-reports are sent home every week for every primary-age child. These predominantly tick-box style reports are designed to give parents continuous feedback.
The Chinese Homeroom Teacher takes the lead in producing these mini-reports.
In addition, the Chinese Homeroom Teacher is required to make telephone contact with every parent once per week, and a proportion of the monthly salary is allocated for this purpose to include the cost of telephone charges.
5. Co-planning
OICprogrammes require more co-operative planning than national curricula. Colleagues should expect to participate in year, subject and whole staff meetings, and colleagues regularly remain after school to discharge these responsibilities.
6. Specialist teaching
Specialist teaching is provided for primary classes in PE/swimming. As students progress through the grades, more specialist teaching is provided in areas such as ICT, Science, Art, Music and Drama.
7. Displays of work
An OIC primary school needs to be alive with displays of students’ work, stimulus materials and Learner Profile references. The post-holder will take a major role in ensuring such an environment through the effectiveness of displays.
8. Extra-curricular activities and duties
All primary teachers are required to participate in assemblies and ECA’s.
Supervision duties are shared equally between colleagues.
