POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of the SDE is to identify and assess potential suppliers in China to support BorgWarner commodity plans. Additional responsibilities include coordinating Supplier APQP activity for New Product Launch components in compliance with BorgWarner APQP procedures. Determine disposition of Supplier PPAP submissions and train Suppliers to BorgWarner’s expectations/requirements. Position is also responsible for setting up Teams, chairing meetings to determine S.C.’s and ensuring Supplier conformance to S.C. requirements.

DIMENSIONS
Understand assigned BorgWarner products and be able to communicate specific requirements with regards to quality and process controls to potential suppliers. Will be assigned specific Suppliers/Commodities and will be responsible for launching new parts, approving Supplier process changes and initiating/tracking Supplier Development activities within assigned Commodities. (Eyes and ears of BW in china…. Communication is key)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supplier Identification and Qualification
? Locate and identify potential suppliers that meet or exceed the needs of BorgWarner commodity strategies.
? Conduct on site supplier assessments of quality systems and process capabilities.
? Ensure that potential suppliers understand BorgWarner product requirements. Review drawing, specifications, and other product specific requirements to ensure that supplier understands and complies with all RFQ requirements.

Supplier APQP
? Verify supplier APQP activities at supplier’s facility. Ensure APQP progress/process integrity meets BorgWarner requirements.
? Assist supplier in problem solving activities to meet or exceed BorgWarner requirements.
? Proactively work with Suppliers to minimize and/or eliminate Launch issues
? Report Supplier APQP progress/problems to BW Launch Team

Supplier PPAP Submissions
? Review and ensure completeness of Supplier PPAP submissions
? Assure PPAP timing remains on time and meets Launch timing objectives
? Update/communicate PPAP timing to Launch Team members
? Assist and ensure that all PPAP requirements are met and documentation is up to date and on file for components within assigned commodities

Supplier Quality
? Host Supplier Quality Training Sessions at Borg Warner’s manufacturing facilities or suppliers facilities as required.
? Ensure that the supplier’s manufacturing processes will produce a quality product that meets BorgWarner requirements.
? Conduct Supplier Audits of Implemented Corrective Actions Plans, S.C.’s and SPC Charts
? Complete Quality Systems Assessment at Supplier’s facility


EDUCATION
? Technical degree or equivalent (mechanical preferred)

KNOWLEDGE and/or EXPERIENCE
? Be familiar with stamping process, and/or machining process.
? Supply chain experience for 8 years and project management experience for 2 years or above.
? Fluent in spoken and written English. German language skills are a plus.
? Knowledge in manufacturing problem solving (8-D Methodology) and manufacturing processes required
? Knowledge of QS-9000/TS16949 requirements including APQP and PPAP required, VDA6.3 is much more preferred.
? Knowledge of SPC, MSA required.
? Automotive experience is preferred

COMMUNICATION/COMPUTER SKILLS
? Effective communication and summarizing of business dealings in the form of trip reports, supplier contact reports and sourcing recommendations.
? Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and in multi cultural groups to achieve stated goals.
? Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
